HOT: $.01 for 2 Gamecube Zelda games at Target (YMMV)

I went to Target today and they had a box of the Zelda bonus discs (both N64 games). I asked how much and the guy checked it - $.01! I asked if I could buy and he let me, even though he "thought" they were supposed to give them away (like say, for pre-ordering Zelda). Your mileage may vary, but it's worth a try.

The 0.01 cent tag is usually because the computer won't allow a price of 0.00 to be rung out for inventory purposes. So basically what they do is to reduce the price of an item by 0.01 and ring you out.

I'm pretty sure they were supposed to add it as a 1 cent item with Zelda pre-order. But dumb workers...

But if you own a GC how come you aren't pre-ordering Zelda and getting the bonus disc for free? 😕
I don't see why you would buy it seperately.

You are wrong, Target does ring up stuff at .00 which is normally a clearnance items that was supposed to be sold out of.

Can you tell me which Target, in which state and city y'all are getting this cool deal from? The two in south Austin, TX don't have it.

Chico, CA. They had them in a cardboard box behind the counter, they're supposed to be given out free when you pre-order Wind Waker.

Hmm... I may have to try those stores again. When I went, the employees had no clue if they were taking pre-orders for the new Zelda: Wind Waker or not. Thanks for the tip.

I had this same thing occur at Walmart. They were selling the discs for 10.00. I believe it was also supposed to be for a "downpayment" to pre-order Zelda. I still bought one anyway 🙂

confirmed at target in steven's creek boulevard in cupertino, ca (near deanza college)
went there, asked the guy what the deal is about with the zelda disk
he explained to me that it's pre-sale for the gamecube zelda, and it will ring as 1 cent
so i asked him if i have to preorder the windwaker, he said maybe...
he brought the cd up to the counter, looked for the preorder form, but couldn't find any
so he just rang me up with the game anyway

he also told me "can't beat the price, huh?" and i told him "yah... maybe i should just buy out the whole box"
(which maybe i should ,p)

anyways... some of us prefer to buy it separately (instead of getting it for preorder) for various reasons.
for me, i dont have gamecube yet, but i am waiting in case nintendo comes out with a bundle of gamecube system and zelda windwaker (which i strongly feel they will). also, we might be able to find windwaker with special stuffs later or something.......

thanks for the good deal, Cabana

edit: dead for the target in cupertino....
my friend went there a few hours ago hoping to get lucky....
the other guy working there would not budge to sell the discs, even when he was told that some discs were sold in the morning ....
he even called up two other guys and all of them wouldn't sell any to him, and finally (probably) the manager decided to take the box out of the glass cage and took the whole box away with him

so, i guess the deal is dead .... -(

too bad, i was thinking of getting one for my sis .... 🙁

I apologize if I sound like I'm begging, but my 12 year old son would go crazy if I could get him one of those 2 game zelda sets. I called every target in my area today and tried to convince them. None of them knew anything about it and could not find a preorder form, so the box of game discs just sits there.

I would gladly pay $6 plus $1 1st class postage if someone would be kind enough to let me have a set. No doubt I'm breaking some anandtech rule or another with this, but if you want to email zeldadisks@hugh.mailshell.com if you have an extra set I'd sure appreciate it.

On the other hand, I believe in a few days everything will be straightened out at target, when I was told they will be preordering and giving out the discs - but my son's birthday was today! Oh well....

Visited a Target in Central NY and they had the discs behind the locked glass with the rest of the gamecube games. I asked an employee to pull one out for me as there was no price listed in the case. It rang up as a penny, but he wouldn't sell it to me and stopped someone who looked like a manager who happened to be walking by.

Manager said it was some sort of a promotion, but he didn't know which and told the employee to pull them out of the cabinet. When the manager walked away, I asked what the promotion was and the original employee told me he thought it started next week, and that it was if you bought a gamecube you got this free. I asked him how I could get one today, and he told me to buy a gamecube.

Long story short, I bought the gamecube to get the disc in the electronics department, and then turned around and returned the gamecube at customer service on the way out...

Visited Walmart tonight at 1am. Needless to say nobody there knew anything about it (especially that late at night). I grabbed one of the forms for pre-order, went up to the customer service desk, and they eventually found where those disks were stashed. I was in line to ring up the pre-order slip ($10), but the manager there said not to worry about it. She said for my patience she would give it to me w/o needing the pre-order. 😀

So I walked out of the store with the disk in my hand and all my money in my pocket. I like Walmart's idea of customer service! 😛

Yeah, we got these in last Friday at work and since we don't have the preorder slips yet we're not supposed to display them nor sell them. Grr... I was going to buy one for myself but my boss won't let me ... and I think by selling them they're violating a street date since you're not supposed to preorder this until the 18th.

Bah!

If those things are supposed to street on the 18th the Nintendo people really need to start informing the corporate reps about what's going on. CompUSA has had those out for several days. On top of that before they arrived the CUSA corp. gaming rep had no idea if they were even doing the preorder program. His response, more or less, was "When the stuff comes in, then we'll know what we have."

Well, I pre-ordered Zelda at EBGames.com when they announced the promotion, before I found out that everyone would be doing it, but I recieved my OOT disc in the mail last week.
It said $0.01 on my packing slip.
Of course, I paid shipping, but then again I also got $12 of MSN dollars, if they ever let me use them for something useful.

Alhambra, CA doesn't have any. I just checked 🙁 Waste of a trip.. oh well, my friend found them at another target.

LOL That's great. Good job 🙂

just went to 2 of my local targets w/ no luck...anyone with extras willing to sell theirs? I'll pay for shipping and a lil extra for the trouble...

Tried the Victorville, CA Target, no go. Decided to go to walmart and pay $10 for the bonus disc. I also noticed that on ebay a lot of people are selling their bonus discs for over $10, saw i already at $21.50!. I wonder if people realize that they can just go to walmart and pay the $10 deposit for the wind waker, and keep the games and if they decide to buy the wind waker they already have a $10 deposit towards it.

Are there any stores that still have the bonus discs? I didn't even know about this until the Best Buy ad mentioned it yesterday, but of course, they're all out and have been "for weeks" (once again making me question the sanity in advertising it). Circuit City, BB, TRU, etc. are all out everywhere. Is there any place that still has them in stock?
