Hostpc is crap from my personal experience. They deleted my account because PHPBB had a security hole in it and some wanabe hackers gained access through the hole. Yet they did nothing to the server or my site. Plus at the time 99.9% of everyone else running PHPBB had the same security risk and getting hacked. HostPC was VERY premature in handling the event and are nothing but a bunch of kids with a reseller account IMO.

On my second year with several sites on HostPC. There were a few issues with one of their servers quite a while back but nothing that wasn't dealt with in a timely and professional manner. Joe and crew do a fine job running a clean operation and this 2fer1 deal may get me to move yet one more site to HostPC.

Your site was hacked, because you failed to update your phpBB, it was used to gain root access to the server, and it's HostPC's fault because???

HostPC isn't a reseller - I'll be happy to provide our datacenter phone contact information to confirm this information to anyone who asks. As for a "bunch of kids" - I'm probably old enough to be your father.

Same here. Very happy with Hospc, and the support was very good whenever I needed them.

HostPC is okay. But for $9 a year, I can't complain about them too much.

If a user installed script was able to be exploited for root access to the server, then it could possibly be HostPC's fault.

I'm not familiar with how that exploit worked, but it seems to take advantage of the permissions given to php by the server. So its either a bug in php itself or poor permissions given to php by the host. If the underlying problem hasn't been fixed, what is to stop somebody from registering an account with you, using the same exploit, then rooting the server again?

I'm not saying you didn't have the right to terminate his account. I'm just saying that a server shouldn't have been rooted because of a user installed script.
