Hosting

I apologize if this isn't appropriate to post here but since this is where I heard about the Cyberwings crap it seemed like a good idea to post a good hosting deal. I found a sweet deal over at ,2for1host.net. Got it for 60 bucks with a serious amount of options and the fastest servers I've been on yet. After getting burned by Cyberwings (I at least got my money back) I've been to two other hosting companies with bad results. One gave tons of space and bandwidth but with almost no options. The other gave some nice options but not enough space or bandwidth.

None of them were able to even come close to what these guys offer. Seriously, a gig of space, 50 gigs transfer, unlimited mysql databases, free ssl and a crapload more. And all the servers are on 2.5g dual P4's w/2 gb ram.

For all those Cyberwings victims this is a sweet setup.

sounds really awesome...whats the catch??? is this one of those places that dont offer any customer service?? or is this just a couple 15 year olds running stuff out of their basement?

hm, they use theplanet? hm, same datacenter as dathorn then. hmm

hm, also, are these reseller accounts? it sounds like it from the description/features list.

Control Panel - (CPanel)
Included!
Users unlimited
Personal Account Management
Accounting Management
Packages Management

If they use dathorn's datacenter it might be a good deal, but personally, I'm VERY happy to spend the extra bucks on Dathorn's service just for the immense amount of support and features.

WHM and cPanel just blow everything out of the water, you get personalized nameservers (ns1.yourdomain.com, etc) and an awesome forum with an admin that never leaves. 🙂

Check out Dathorn and compare

Well, as for the catch: None.

The owner of the company is my age (33 - okay, I'm 34) and, if you look at the About Us section, he's an IBM veteran with serious management experience. And as for support it's basically 24/7 with a sweet online support panel on their main page. Stay online for very long and they message you asking if you need help. Its very spooky at first ("Where the hell did that come from?") but fast. So far, in the short few months I've had it I've had 3 technical issues that I sent a trouble ticket on. Nothing major but a ticket nonetheless. I had an answer within the first hour on all but 2. The third was answered in person by an online tech since I was on their website looking for information about the company. Impressive.

Their servers are all based at the Planet and they apparently own their own Dell servers. The specs are in my first post. I'm doing more digging because, like you, I don't want to get my but reamed like it was with Cyberwings. For at least the first 3 months I can say that I've not had my server crash, had any major problems with the CPanel interface and not once have I had to wait for tech support. Hell, just go to the mainpage and you get it within a few minutes at the most.

edited for typos and.... They are a subsidiaryof (Essene Inc. From what I've seen so far they appear to be a very credible business. I'll keep researching them just to be sure I'm not steering people in the wrong direction.

wow...free SSL and free domain name? but is that SSL in the name of your domain?...prolly not right?...
or maybe it'll pop-up a dialog asking the user to accept or deny the cert.
3mths free?...does that mean its $59.95-$14.97 = $44.98? or its 15mths for $59.95?

Another thing is i dun get the 2 for 1 plan..??
Whats 2?...for 1? what?

Okay, I've compared the two. Everything is the same with the only exception I see being: 1 gig more space. 20 gigs less transfer. I need the 50 gigs more then the space (1 gig is a buttload). I know I'll see 40 gigs transfer on a semi-regular basis.

Oh yea, the price

4.95 a month for 2for1host.net
13.50 a month for Dathorn.com

Oooh ooooh, 🙂 Just got done talking to man himself and asked him about the extra gig. Basically the same setup but with 2 gigs would cost 10 buck more a year. Thats 83 cents a month. I now have 2 gigs of space! Hell, I've been used to 500 megs for 2x the price.

I'm checking on the 3 months free thing slycat.

** You are now speaking with Marshall, Sales - 2for1Host. **
Marshall : Hello sir, this is Marshall..Yes it does mean you receive 15 months

sly : OK..
sly : one more question
sly : The acct comes with a free domain name?
Marshall : also, if you have problems with paypal..if it does not take you to the correct page, you can send the amount to erikb@shaw.ca which is the owners paypal account.
Marshall : yes sir, it comes with a free domain
sly : I already have my own which i want to be hosted by you guys(change dns/ns) but i wanna take advantage of that free domain too which i will basically just hold on to..how do i go about doing that?

Do these guys offer telnet or SSH? I was really needing a web host with SSH, and if they've got it - this may just be an incredible deal for me.

For security reasons, shell access is not enabled by default. In order to activate shell access on your account, you will need to fax or mail a copy of your driver's license, passport or other photo id to customer service.

Nice deal...I'm currently with AddAction

Not trying to thread crap, just beware of new companies.

Funny 🙂 They use the same registration script as AddAction.Net hehe must be a script for that which they both liked

edit: strange how I can view their main page (2for1host.net) but I can't ping them...

Maybe they have their server and/or firewall setup not to respond to pings. It's not that uncommon of a setup.

yes, I have that enabled on my router, but why would they? I don't see why they would have that enabled...

wow...free SSL and free domain name? but is that SSL in the name of your domain?...prolly not right?...
Here's what I know about that, it is a shared SSL and I have not used it. I do know of someone who needed a personal ssl and they were given their own IP and setup free SSL for them.

Telnet and SSH: Apparently they provide SSH access because Telnet is not secure. That's all I know about it though.

Here is what I found out about the company (apparently the dude who I talked to at Essene needs a vacation 'cause he was gonna fax me the documents!):

needs to be harshly considered...... 😀

wow, the deal looks awesome! but like others, i'm still afraid to step into a new company due to my horrible CW experience.

//krunk (^_^x)

Yea, I was too. I've been with this place for a few months and can't complain. I had hosting with Liquidweb and while their service wasn't too bad their service and server speeds are nothing compared to what I'm getting with 2for1host.net/Essene.ca.

Do you get your money back from Cyberwings?

No. I was asked questions so I answered them rather then leave my post silent. Cyberwings screwed me over for months and it was through this forum that I got the information. I don't work for Essene but I am a customer. I've been going through hosting companies trying to find a decent one since I got shafted by Cyberwings and so far this is the best company I've run into by far!

My credentials aren't **** but for what its worth I was a reviewer for AthlonXP.com and currently am in the process of rebuilding Rizenet.com which I was doing reviews for before my partner and I went over to AXP. So, no, I am not doing marketing for them but when you get a sweet deal you spread the word.

my 5th post in this thread! i must be working for them or something... 😀
i dun mind mkting so long as its good stuff.
