How difficult would this be? And what would the system requirements be?

Not difficult at all but you'll have to have good bandwidth. Check tucows for webserver software.

Or if you're running NT4 or Win2K it has IIS, which will fill all your server needs.

If you have a dedicated computer to use as a server, I would definetly recomend BSD and Apache. It can be confusing to set up, but seems to be much faster and more reliable than any Win2k setups I've had for the same purpose.

How fast would the computer need to be? I imagine one would need loads of memory, too? and would a cable connection be fast enough?
and would it need to be a dedicated server? ie, used soley for serving?

it really depends on how many people are going to visit your web page. If you have a text web page and 2 people come to it a day with about 2MB served you can use that computer no problem. If there are going to be alot of people or large pages it becomes a problem. It can also be dangerous if it is your main computer as you are giving the whole world a line into it.

If you have lots of pictures, cable will not be sufficient because they limit the uploads to a wimpy 16KB/s. Even if only one person was downloading one picture on broadband, it would still seem slow to them. You need at least unlimited upload DSL. But if you are just starting out, stick with the cable until it seems to be taxed.

you don't need a fast computer to host with, after all, the server is only sending files, not much CPU usage.
