hosting with router

i have cable internet which feeds into a router and gets spit between two computers, with both sharing the same ip. is there any way for me to host an online game without bypassing the router?

I've been doing that for years.

Find out which ports your particular game uses (ie. google) and forward those ports inthe routers configuration pages. Forwarding ports is the terminology for opening up those ports to the internet so people can join your server.

i tried looking it up, but i have no idea what im doing. i know how to access my router by typing 192.168.1.254 into a web browser, but is that what i want, and what do i do from there?

"Find out which ports your particular game uses (ie. google) "

Go to Google, type your game's name, and type the word "ports", no quotes. Press enter, see what comes up, write down any and all port numbers that the links say your game uses, those will need to be "forwarded" in your routers config pages.

Next you need to read the manual (rtfm) for your router, looking for the section on FORWARDING PORTS.

We can help you guy, but you gotta do some legwork and meet us halfway😀
