Yes Exchange has a very intensive purpose. ;)

Definitely want to use Outlook with the exchange account and have push email (+ contacts and calendar) via activesync on my WM phone.

1. MS seems to charge $10/month.

2. Godaddy just started offering hosted exchange services (but it's not clear if they charge $6.99 or $9.99 for 'mobile services').

3. mail2web seems to offer mobile for $4.95/month but blocks outlook on that plan, i.e. if you want to use Mobile + Outlook with your exchange account it's $9.95?

What's the best (and cheapest) in your opinion?

Still no answer for the best/cheapest hosted exchange provider that provides outlook, outlook web access and mobile (e.g. activesync) support.

Then I might as well go with one of those 'free' hosted exchange providers where my identity/sensitive info will be stolen.

Damn man for all that trouble I would just get BB and use Gmail (BIS). It gets me my mail in less than a minute.

Wow - this must be the most unhelpful thread/crowd ever.

Don't really understand why people can't seem to answer a simple question like:
"What is the cheapest/best hosted exchange provider that offers X, Y and Z?"

 I gave you a direct answer.

With mail2wed you get the following for the business $10 month:

Outlook Anywhere
Outlook Web Access (OWA)
Outlook Mobile Access (OMA)
Activesync
Outlook 2007 Standard License for the life of your term.

You really can't ask for more and if $10 is too much for all that they you need to stop looking at exchange.

You have come across as a total dick in this thread. If you don't like the answers you are given, go somewhere else and ask them.

I would say posts that have nothing to do with the question asked, make that poster come across like a dick.

I asked a pretty simple question.
Received 5 replies that actually tried to be helpful (big thank you to the people trying to be helpful), although none answered my "cheaper than $10/month" request.

mailstreet has been quite good. You're gonna pay at least $10/month with anyone.

And do you necessarily need hosted exchange? The MOS cloud solution is pretty decent.
www.microsoftonline.com

Although, the last 'service' is unclear what it is and how it differs from MS' hosted exchange offering. (drinkmorejava never answered my questions concerning that and the people at MS online where unhelpful too)

On my own (and big thanks to some other boards!!) I have been able to find a free hosted exchange provider (not sure I trust them though) and one (big) respectable company that charges ~$5/month.

Exchange hosting by 1&1 USA is $7 per month. (In addition to the administration charge for the domain name, <$1/month.)
You get a free copy of Outlook too.

Seems good to me but interested to know if there are other options.

I hope MS comes up with a basic and cheap version of Exchange for consumers; I'd like to put some of my family on but too expensive.

(PS you might have got an answer sooner if you didn't post in social->off topic!
