Here's the link: Phillipine hostages found beheaded

I dunno, personally I think we should send in a team of marines to blow the hell out of the responsible factions... then again, this is tricky territory since the Filipinos aren't very keen on Americans in the first place.

Eye for an eye, so to speak.

Offer the Phillipean government all the help they need and insist that they take it. Nothing more can be done.

Weren't you spouting off the other day how the US shouldn't just "give money" to other nations in order to get them to do our dirty work?

I´v never said that.

There are US citizens being held hostage and the US should do what it can without causing an internaional incident.

I refer you to this thread from last week

Granted, I perceived your comments only about 75% on target, but the fact of the matter is that you're now talking out of both sides of your mouth so far as the US's international involvement is concerned.

So your point of posting in this thread is talk about me?

Dont you have anything better to do?

This thread is about a certain situation, not about every single mini war the US has waged. And I´m not suggesting the US go in and kill all the terrorists there, its not their problem. I´m only saying, offer assistance, if taken then go in and retrieve the hostages and then leave.

I think I read that there are other rebel groups in that region that have signed a truce with the government and even THEY say this faction has gone too far. This rebel group is going to be hunted down and every last one of them will be killed. I am sure the US gov't would be more than happy to supply ANYTHING the Filipino gov't requires to do this. Unfortunately, the rebels own death will undoubtedly lead to the deaths of those they have captured...unless they surrender with the hostages and hope for some kind of leniency.

Send in the Marines, the Seals, Delta Force, Rangers, Mr. T, etc.... and hunt the rebels down and extract bloddy revenge. Until we start dealing with groups like this in the same manner Israel does then our citizens will continue to be victimized in this way.

Shiner, perhaps you have it backwards. Perhaps if the US didn't make a habit out of meddling in the affairs of other countries, it's citizens wouldn't be the de-facto primary target of every wacko out there......

If some nutjob like McVeigh, in blowing up a building, also got some people from the some country, would you want troops from that country coming to the US and going after the outlaw faction? I suspect not.

Sad that it got to this, I feel bad for the hostages, they just got caught at the wrong place wrong time through no fault of their own.

tagej, they go after Americans, well in this case only, because of $$. As far as middle eastern issues, yes, it's because we meddle too much. But kidnappers and ransomers are only after the almighty dollar, which the US has a lot of.

If the US should mind its own business, does that mean we should pull out all our battlecruisers and spy planes that patrol asia?

If I wanted to attack you I'd just send you a private message... I'm not looking to pick a fight with anyone. I was just wanting a clarification on your stance since what you said last week in a similar thread appeared to contradict what you were saying here.

That is all. :)

My niece is in the Peace Corps in the Philipines. My sister and brother in law just came back from visiting her.

When I first heard about this I thought, well that guy was stupid for vacationing in/near such a dangerous area. My sister filled me in a little more on this story. This rebel group did other abductions in the past & were paid millions in ransoms. They bought high-speed boats & weapons with that money. They grabbed this American and some other people from a resort (overpowering the armed guards) and took them by the high speed boats to a different island about 300-500 miles away.

The whole place sounds pretty scary to me.

As I posted in another thread, these idiot Americans were vacationing in an area where a known terrorist threat exists. They specifically went against a State Department travel advisory and in the face of previous kidnapping reports from the same area.

I am not saying that they "got what they deserved", only that we shouldn't risk the lives of American servicemen to avenge people who took risk upon themselves for a vacation.

What's next? Boating in Basra???

From my understanding, you need to be careful with what parts of the phillipines you choose to visit. Some areas are fine, others you'd probably rather not.

So lets assume that mcveigh did kill a Phillipinos in the blast tagej. now the phillipine government sends in a covert missions teams and one day mcveigh turns up dead. I'd not really be all that disturbed. I'd think its a shme we didn't get to put him through our process for the sake of the victims families, but if nothing else I think he'd still get what was coming to him in the end.

As far a how to handle this...has anyone seen swordfish? ;)
