In grade 10 we did some tests to see about how powerful we were. We climbed some stairs as fast as we could, then using our mass, height, time, etc, we figured out our wattage 🙂

I was about 1.1 HP at the time I think.

I doubt that figure is correct, maybe close.
They measured the power output of the famous cyclist Pantani and he could produce ~1hp but not continuously.

...with just his legs. It's different if you're pulling yourself up the railing as well.

Yep. If you've ever driven a 200 hp, 4WD tractor, you would realize that you could outpull about as many horses as you could find. I once skidded a complete 2 car garage with a 40 hp 2WD tractor. No problem.

Oh, yeah, your 200 hp car isn't all that good at pulling but, no matter how many horses you have, they aren't that good at going 100 MPH. Power is used in different ways.

Someone (Watts) said 1 horse can produce a certain amount of energy. Your car produces energy as well. Since car engines are more powerful than horses, it would take multiple horses to produce the same amount of power. Ergo, a 200 horsepower engine is as powerful as 200 horses...

and you call yourself a man! 😉
Power, not energy.

Nope.... It's based on the average weight a horse can lift in one minute.

Eli, you sure are losing it. You even missed how he defined work as power.

😀
