This has been happening for over a week now when I upgraded my coputer.
When ever I play mp3s, games, or wavs I get really bad static and clipping. No sound problems when I play audio CDs in the CD-ROM drive or from and external CD player. Only when the sound is stored in a file on the hard drive. Here's what I've tried with no success:
Exchanging sound card
Exchanging motherboard
Buying new speakers (Labtec LCS-2514 five speaker surround)
Have tried sound card in all PCI slots
Adjusting audio properties
Have installed most recent drivers for all components
Swapped sound card for another of the same type from different computer. No problems on other computer, same problems on mine.
Swapped speakers with other computer, same results as above.
Changed IRQ settings for sound card.
When I upgraded I replaced the following components:
CPU (K6-3 400)
motherboard (Epox EP-58 MVP3)
Sound Card (SB AWE 64 ISA)
I haven't had the CPU looked at yet and I think I will soon. I've tried some overclocking but the sound problems began before I overclocked.
I'm out of ideas. Please tell me you have some. Thanks guys. 🙂
