Rant Horrible photography skills of Anandtech authors

I wonder what potato mr. Bonshor used to make photos in the current motherboard review (Asrock Aqua) - was it a sweet potato or a regular potato?

I wondered about this many times before already. When somebody makes what is supposed to be a professional review or a reporting piece, some level of photography quality is in my opinion expected.

The photos are so bad that even "an average reader" must clearly see it, not just photography enthusiasts like me.

Is these some more appropriate space for Anandtech articles feedback here on the forum?

I don't usually comment on other's photography skills since mine are so poor, but I have to agree the photos in that review leave much to be desired!
I can only assume no one bothered to check them before the page went live.

I see that not only the photos but also other graphics look really bad just because the way it is displayed in the article. I always thought that there should be two versions of the pictures made in an acceptable quality, one to be displayed in the text and the larger version. It seems that the first one does not exist at all and the larger pictures are automatically downsized with some horrible quality settings.

When you view the larger version of the photos, they are not very good either. The resized photos and other graphics in the article look like a total garbage.

You mean this -- https://www.anandtech.com/show/14951/the-asrock-x570-aqua-motherboard-review-

I think your just being picky to be picky!!!

Appears he used a Huawei VOG-L29 smartphone which has the 40MP Leica Quad camera. But MP aren't everything. Especially if you don't treat the image well in Photoshop. He used Photoshop CC 2017 to do his pixel mashing.
1000x836, 72dpi, 24-bit color, 350kb file size. I believe the compression bits/pixel of 1 means 1:1, so the image isn't over compressed. I can only assume it's the lens quality of camera on the smartphone he used. Tiny little sensor, very close to wide open aperture, narrow depth of field and reduced fine detail clarity/sharpness.

*shrug*

I see no money changing hands as in you get what you pay for.....so sorry not that badly out of focus to cry like a baby!!
not true, I dont run ad blockers, or vpn or any of that shit. so money is changing hands. but also, i dont really care, I only clicked through to see what the OP was talking about.

I suspected that he used a mobile phone. I checked other pictures and more were taken with Huawei P30. The camera seems to be defective too - see the picture of unmounted heatsink.

Using mobile phone to photograph pictures for a review could be acceptable for some primary school project, not publication of this sort! It is very unprofessional.

Photos themselves are one problem and the fact how these photos (and other pictures) are displayed in the articles the second one.

I'm pretty sure the main site is just a shill site for Chinese manufacturers. I wouldn't expect much from it at this point.

But before you enter this site or to even access this site you do not have to have a subscription or pay a fee...…..prove me wrong....hahahahaaaaaa

What do you mean we don't pay? Anand is still taking PayPal payments for my Subscriber access.

We donot pay a fee or a subscription to enter this site other than to make our monthly internet fee.......
Maybe you need to contact Purch and get your money refunded...lolol

I don't think those are bad at all. Maybe not as clear as they could be if they were taken by a DSLR or something (I'm not a photography guy), but they're plenty good for the article IMO.
