Yes, a store located in Vegas.

You're such a comedian. :p

Back to the OP... if you (wamblam) are hurting so badly day by day with downtime, then why did you ever consider mailorder?

Regarding telephoning a vendor on a weekend, likely not going to happen. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong (always happens) but AFAIK 100% of internet resellers don't answer phones over the weekend.

Regarding mismatching addresses, give up. This is like customizing your meal at a fast food restaurant. I used to tease a buddy about that all the time because he ALWAYS asked for NO-this and EXTRA-that, and almost never got it. It is just one of those things... your life will be less complicated once you accept that it isn't going to happen the way you want it to happen. With credit cards, the vendor is 100% liable for the money if a claim was made against a purchase that they shipped to a non-billing (or valid) address. So, the majority of vendors (near 100%) just plain won't do it. Losing $400+ dollars worth of merchandise is usually worth more than a client's potentially lost business over the years (with margins as low as they are).

As for them not contacting you after promising to, well, that's just bad customer service.

losing money every day.

You need a new hobby. :p Just kidding! Funny taking things out of context though. Good luck on your game and don't stress too much.

This is just an FYI to people who are trying to ship to a non-billing address. You can always have fedex ship the parts to your local Kinko's, the staff at Kinko's will then check your ID when you arrive. This stops the whole process of having to ship to a non verified address. I did this several times when ordering computer parts from college, way better than calling the bank or what ever else you are required to do.

I've never had any horrible experiences with NewEgg, so I find it hard to find anyone else to recommend really. There's ClubIT, which I would normally suggest, but they're going through a transition at the moment. There's also ZZF, but I find that NewEgg is often a bit cheaper and faster.

That's not to say that teh Egg is teh perfect though. The customer comments are often moronic to the point of being comedic  - pretty rife with people yelling in CAPS because they didn't read the product instructions and assumed the thing must be DOA. The whole feedback system needs to be improved somehow.

If there's any eTailer that has a great product comment system though, I'd have to say it's NCIX (or NCIXUS to us in the US). Each product there has it's own mini-thread shown below it where people can comment, ask questions, etc. And the NCIX reps will often reply with helpful info. The quality of the discussion is a lot higher and intelligible too.

One thing that will solve a portion of the problem with Newegg's "reviews" are if they put some constraints on them. For instance, a review for a product can only be made if the person has bought it from Newegg. Require as input an invoice number that has a part number on it that matches the part being reviewed. In addition, don't allow reviews until at least one month from the date on the invoice.

Sure, the QUANTITY of reviews will probably be cut drastically, but the QUALITY of them will improve tenfold.

Just wanted to thank everyone who suggested I visit Frys here in Vegas.

I went there on Monday morning and the staff in the computer parts dept could not have been more helpful.

I especially want to thank Samuchcha Wonsavit who helped me put together the parts I needed.
Frys should deem themselves lucky to have such an employee on their staff.

(After we had finished I did ask his permission to mention his name in this reply before anyone asks)

He offered excellent and patient advice on the pros an cons of putting together the system I needed.

I went home and rebuilt the system, apart from the normal driver glitches everything went smoothly and I was up and running in no time.

As I am typing this message from the newly rebuilt computer you can consider my first experience of Frys a very good one.

OK, quick outline of my story

I live in Missouri but I am currently in Las Vegas for 1 month playing in the World series of poker.

The MB died on my computer so I thought it was an ideal time to upgrade as I was going to anyway and even posted in this forum asking for advice.

Having delt with consumers over the internet I understand the fraud risks of having a different shipping address from a billing address.

So I called them and spoke to a customer service person named "Edwin"

I explained my situation, he said it would be no problem and all I would have to do is ring my bank and put a note in my account.
I did this straight away. Went through all the hoops. Then I placed the order.

two days went by and the order couldnt be verified. (Thurs 5th)
I talked To Edwin again explaining how desperate I was for the parts as I do business online and every day costs me money.
I gave him MY cell phone number and the phone numbers of my bank and the 1-800 number on the back of the card.
He`said he will sort it out and call me back............ never did.

I ring up three times Friday asking for Edwin............ apparently he was too busy most of the day to talk to me.

I finally had to explain the whole story to another CS rep who frankly didnt seem to care about my order.
She said it would be sent to the verification dept again. I asked to speak to them but she said thats not possible.

I get a "form type" email Saturday telling me my order was cancelled.
No explanation of the reasons or what they did to try an verify.
I dont know if they even bothered to call my bank.

I basically wasted a whole week and 10 phone calls to get absolutely nowhere.

They never contacted me once even though they promised numerous times.

The customer service at Newegg is frankly horrible if you have a problem.

I have used newegg in the past, never again. They have lost a customer for life.

I certainly could not in good faith reccomend them to anyone I know.

If a member of management is reading my order number was 62242924
(the order came to approx $469 with express shipping, how ironic)

So now I am back to square one.......... I need a supplier who can supply computer parts to me here in Vegas.
I am sitting here with a dead computer losing money every day.

Can anyone suggest a supplier who is more personal
I am willing to pay extra for good fast service and someone who i can actually interact with if there is a problem.

Dear wamblam,

Thanks for taking the time to post your informative review. We greatly apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced due to your situation. At your earliest convenience, please contact Alex at 800-390-1119 ( dial 25040 immediately ) or by email at alex.a.villarino@newegg.com for further assistance.

Thank you

Thanks for taking the time to reply. As you can see I have already found another supplier.

I myself run an internet business though not on the vast scale of Newegg.
But I do have customers who rely on me to supply them with services in a timely and reliable manner. Something I pride myself in.

Although I do appreciate your offer for ME to ring or email YOU. I do find it somewhat ironic
because YOU actually have both my email and telephone number.

Its ironic because of what one of your CS staff told me.

They told me they are not allowed to make any outgoing calls while they have incoming calls.

If true, it basically means new customer orders have a higher priority than current orders.

For a company that claims 1.5 billion in sales, it seems you lack anyone whose sole job is to "put out fires" when problems like this come up.

Why train your staff that different shipping address from billing will be "no problem"

Obviously it is a problem. As is the fact that I was treated pretty poorly.

As a customer I did everything I was asked to do. I could have even faxed documents and any other verification devices you wanted.
I was basically left hanging for 6 days untill you could be bothered to send me a form email
on a saturday (when I little chance to find a supplier)

Anyway, its a happy ending. I have the parts I want.
You have one less customer bothering you with an order

Good luck in the future.

While Frys can be convenient, be aware that a standard Frys practice has been to re-sell returned items. Sometimes Frys does this with no warning to the next purchaser, resealing the box and presenting it as unopened product. I've been shopping at Frys for about twelve years now, and have friends who refuse to buy anything there for this reason.

Frys also has a history of offering products with extremely unreliable rebates, posting inaccurate rebate forms, and poor support for rebate problems

My own experience leads me to believe that one of the reasons that Frys has low prices on some items is that Frys agrees to NOT return products to the manufacturers. I have no proof of this theory.

When you buy items at Frys, carefully inspect the item for a "Returned Merchandise" sticker and keep an eye out for other signs that the product has been previously sold.

Damn you NEWEGG, you lost another one!
Don't worry, I'll order enough to make up for it.
I've never had a problem with Newegg that they didn't fix quickly and to my satisfaction, and in many cases, my advantage.

The customer reviews are there for comedic purposes only, not to be taken seriously. I was looking at some reviews when I ordered a low profile sound card, and one actually said "DOES NOT EVEN FIT IN MY CASE!!! THE BRACKET WAS CUT TOO SHORT AND DOES NOT REACH!!!"
I guess he didn't know what "low profile" meant. "Cut too short"...LOL.

Whoops, I was thinking of something else.

Anyways, it's good that you're back up and running. That's the important thing, right?

I'm actually glad that there isn't a Fry's Electronics closer to me because I'd probably go broke. The larger Fry's stores are like a computer geek's Disneyland.

That's not newegg's fault, though.

IMO, newegg is superb for great prices, fast shipping and delivery, and easy RMA of defective merchandise. Phone CS leaves something to be desired however.

This is exactly what I do before I place large orders online. the bank makes a note of it and the transactions never have problems going through. Takes 2-3 minutes tops.

Agreed 100% I wouldn't shop at Fry's at gunpoint.

On the otherhand ,I have bought literally thousands of dollars of parts from newegg since they opened shop on the internet and have NEVER got burned by them. Their CS department was very helpful and expedited all my returns with no questions asked as long as the returns fell within the guidelines.

Yup.

I've been buying from the Egg for years with a different billing/shipping address. It's a 'slam-dunk'. Never done me wrong. Sorry the OP feels so torqued. This AM I got ....

X2 6000 3.0G AM2 2x1Mb: $99
BIOSTAR A770 A2+ AM2+ AMD770: $55 AR

2 burners - OCZ 600w psu - 4Gb ram - $15 total s&h!

$380 or so when it's all said and done - from the comfort of my AC'ed castle in just few minutes. It would have taken less time but I had to do 2 orders to get all my promo code discounts.

Life is good with The Egg :D

Simple answer...............

At the time my MB died I didnt know they existed. I am not from Vegas.

I had bought from NE in the past with no problems.
I rang them and was assured there would be no problem, I even agreed to pay $42 for next day express shipping.
I basically got strung along for a week till they cancelled the order.

Of course looking back, had I known Frys existed and the problems I came up against I would have gone there straight away.

Sometime in life we learn lessons through our own experiences.

Other peoples experiences may be different, I totally except that.

I never for one moment suggested that my experience at NE was typical BUT it was MY experience.
I dont think anybody having my experience would have not been upset in the least.

By posting my experience/problem I was helped by the posters in this thread who suggested my going to Frys. (thanks to all those who suggested them)

Also it may help another person who is in my situation (out of town) in making a decision on buying live vs buying from an online retailer.
