About, oh..., 2 months ago my friends Athlon 1.33 Ghz suddenly died and stopped working. He was in the middle of a game of starcraft, the computer froze so he rebooted and it wouldn't boot. Ever since then it hasn't been able to boot at all. I suggested to him that it was probably the power supply, since I doubted the Amptron presystem he had was a very good one, so he went and got one. Still no boot.
I then suggested to get a new processor, as he mentioned something or other about one of the fans in a 2 fan/heatsink combo was unplugged, so he got a 1.5 Ghz XP. Still no boot 🙁. So I had him check everything of course, everything that I could think of at least. This is the first comp. hes building but it sounds like he did everything right. I've had him try it with just processor, video card, mobo, and ram, still to no avail.
So, the next thing I told him to do was get a new motherboard, and this is where we are at now. Hes gotten a new mobo, case, power supply, processor, and mobo, and the thing still isn't working! The only thing we havent' replaced is RAM, could that be it?
I've basically had him make sure he inserted the processor correctly, installed the heatsink properly, ram is in correctly, all that stuff.. Power to the mobo is in right, video card is inserted firmly. But when he trys to boot from that only the fans and leds come on. If he has the hard drives and the cd-rom in the cd-rom comes on but not the hard drives. This makes it sound to me like a setup problem, the leds and fans wouldn't come on if it was hardware would they? Does anyone have any ideas?
