My wife's WRX can now be the beast it is! We have never driven her car on the original wheels/tires because we got snow tires put on before leaving the dealer (was snowing that day). Weather seems to be co-operating, haven't seen snow in like 2½ weeks. :D Already swapped out my Mazdaspeed 6, yesterday did the WRX. I now also have a breaker bar and torque wrench to add to my arsenal. Made it so easy that I wonder why I didn't think of this before?

Here are the tires stacked against the garage wall. Ignore the size, perspective threw them off. They are all almost the same size. Starting from the closest stack on the left are the Michelin X-Ice, Blizzaks and then the OEM tires from my 'speed 6, almost down to the tread bars. They are all mounted on wheels, so I can swap 'em out as needed.

Here's a previously posted pic of the WRX with the X-Ice tires and some random cheap aluminum wheels.

Here is the WRX back to original wheels/tires. If you look closely you can see the nubs still on the tread. Lots of reflections in the paint even though the car is dirty.

Here's the rear, looking out of my garage.

Here's the front. Wow, the unpainted brakes have some rust on them from just one Winter. Tires are still nice, black and shiny from the dealer prep. A very distorted reflection of me is somewhere there, right underneath my older BMX bike (GT Pro Series aluminum).

Funny thing is that I took it out for a spin after putting the wheels on, and stopped for some $4.20/gal gas. A near identical 2011 WRX hatch pulled up to the pump right behind me and I ended up talking to the owner for a few minutes. He got the same color, but a lower end model (ours is Premium with leather, his didn't have leather so it was Limited or base). He bought his right off the lot after cross-shopping pretty much the same cars we did (Evo, BMW 3--ix, Audi). He also had the short shifter (which we also have), plus had the stainless exhaust.

I can't see pics, what kind of tires? Or the year of the car. I have a 2010 wrx premium. I just slapped on some of the firestone firewhawk wide oval indy 500's. So much better than stock dunlops.

I was happy to get off the mushy snow tires as well.

Also congrats on having a wife that can drive stick!

I like the cheapie 5 spokes better though!

They actually look nicer and slimmer than they are. They are painted black, but with polished silver accents. The actual five spokes are about twice as wide as the silver part you see.

Yup, both of us have always owned vehicles with manual transmissions. Her car is a 2011 WRX Premium. The "Summer tires" I put back on are basically the OEM wheels with the OEM Dunlops.

Are the calipers not aluminum?

I don't know. Looks like a bit of rust to me, though it could be some deposits from something else.

Your wife has a WRX Limited if it has leather. His would be a base or Premium.

Yeah... my wife's stock tires are definitely "Summer Performance" tires. Mine are actually all seasons but still Z-rated. My original tires are also Summer Performance.

Nice car! I put the summers back on my '11 dgm 5 door limited about a month ago. Feels good to have grip again.

Summer tires FTW. My RE-01R's are about shot and very noisy. Ordered a set of RE760's to replace them, hopefully before I put about 10 hours of driving on my car this weekend.

Finally got a set of summers myself. Went with the BFGoodrich TA something-or-another. It's the only tire made in my car and fortunately, seems to be a nice tire. It's got pretty fantastic grip and isn't too loud like some reviews said.

I love my Blizzaks to death but it's nice to be running a tire that doesn't feel like it's going to fold in half during a turn!

I love my Blizzaks too, but only if there is actual snow on the asphalt. :p

I've actually driven in light snow (maybe 1-2") in my all seasons and they were fine. It was on a trip coming back from Missouri during a blizzard and we saw at least 20-30 disabled cars both on and off the road. I never felt traction to be an issue. Of course the tires were new at the time so had their max grip.

I used to tire swap, but now I just use Micheline Pilot Sports A/S Plus all year round on my Red Line. They turned out to be pretty decent in winter.

My point is that you can run summer tires all year round.

Not where I live. Trust me, I tried. One visit to the nearest ditch was enough. With Summer tires and actual snow on the asphalt, there is nearly ZERO traction.
