Originally I thought my monitor was going bad, so I replaced it. Same problem...dark,horizontal line across screen. I took a peak under the hood and noticed that the fan on my asus gforce ddr wasn't working :( Any ideas what to do now, besides buy a new card???
p.s. I'm thinking of a MSI 831

OK first of all before blaming it on your video card, how thick is dark line on the monitor?
Does your monitor have a trinitron tube? Every trinitron Tube has a tension wire on it, so if you have a trinitron it could be it. Then again if it's not a trinitron then it's probably the monitor. From what i have seen if your video card is overheating, you'll get banding... lines or dots all over your screen but they're not static of the time, they move around... and eventually your system will lock up.

I get noticeable horizontal lines on my monitor when i run it at 85hz, and they go away at 75hz. maybe you could try changing your refresh.

That's exactly what I get, banding that moves around the entire screen. No, I don't have a trinitron tube and I don't use the monitor in the shower. Thanks to everyone that gave some helpful comments

Check your monitor cord, are any of the pins bent? Check for EMI (interference from electro waves caused by certain devices) How many horazontal lines do you have? 2? and do those lines MOVE or do they sit dormant the entire time?

There are multiple lines (10-20, of varying thickness and always follow lines of text and borders

Yeah thats your video card them, see if you can get an RMA on it..... The fan stopped and the card is overheating...... the memmory is probably fried on it... IT worked but not well then... Run 3d MArk, and see if you get corruption of textures....... That will tell too if your card is the problem...

I had a Hercules Geforce 256 die on me..... I started noticin artifacts and crap... took it back and got me a GeForce2 GTS! anyways... good luck.

I had the EXACT same problem as you. I sent my video card back to Creative Labs, and it's being repaired by them as we speak.

I had just bought a new monitor aswell so I assumed it had something to do with it, but I tested another monitor on my computer and it didn't solve the problem. I replaced the video card with a different one and it solved the problem.

I assumed the problem was related to temperature\heat because my fan was making strange noises and it looked like it was spinning at a slower rate than usual.

If I were I'd send it back to the company to get repaired.

*EDIT*
They may even replace it for me\you. I hope they tell me the video card is so screwed up that they have to give me a GF3 :)

Video card is bad. My cousin is having the exact same problemn right now ith his Geforce 1 SDR. Dell is being idiots and won't send me a new card until their "tech" comes to check it himself. I swapped vid cards and the lines went away. Put the Geforce back in, and the lines are back.
