Padding wouldn't have and won't help. That kind of deceleration the body just can't take. That section of the course looks like a death trap.

The second youtube link just got removed while I was watching. I tried to watch it again and it wouldn't work, hit refresh, gone.
but if you enclose it as a tube at the turn exist, at least they have a chance to just slide to the end. But I guess that doesn't help the tv coverage.
He crashed into what looks like a metal pole, if it was soft padding, I think he would still be alive.
I think it said 140 KPHSo how fast is the top speed on this course?
Also - they need to put up padding on the steel poles in case this happens again.
Now that I've seen the video, I don't think putting padding around the pole would have done anything. That was just brutal.
Maybe a tight net or something could be put up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhSpeu2dgKk this worked for me.
i think he means if there were no poles, but rather something like an inflatable structure to keep the elements off the track
clear plexiglass upper tube perhaps. They still wipe out and hurt, but at least they have a fighting chance.
