Tumble to your death

And just when I thought I was not having a good day I am pleased to see that stock prices are falling! In the last while I've lost a day's wages in my pitifully small mutual fund (I'm not old enough to have a big one yet). If all works out as I hope I can lose even more. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing tickles me quite as much as seeing my retirement being burned away, its lovely :D

Oh god, this is depressing. I had some money I dropped in my mutual fund a couple years back and upon entering the work force I've started to drop money in consistently and now is when my fund stops doing well. Oh the tears :( I guess I'll leave it in though, cycles happen...my father quoted a stock broker who said something like "If only I didn't have to see stock prices go up and down all day I'd be a rich man, but I just can't help but trade around."

Skoorb, be happy! The idea is to buy low and sell high, right? So prices are dropping, and you continue to buy. That's good.

Dollar-cost averaging is your friend.

KRANKY is right, this is just a buying opportunity.

MFs are long range investments and with consistant, even investments you will do well. These are not for get rich quickers or day traders, they are wealth builders. I envy younger persons their opportunities today.

Anybody ever notice that the market always seems up at the end of every quarter?

There are so many people interested in investing more and more, I wouldn't worry. The market will never crash simply because if it ever drops insanely, there will be twice as many people scrambling to buy buy buy.

Stocks fluctuate, but in the end they always go up.

Losing money is NOT my kind of humour, or many other peoples either. It is a serious situation for people, companies, and savings funds. It is NOT a laughing matter I think.

I seriously hope no one had any Home Depot stock. I've been watching it for awhile, and it just took a dive bomb towards the floor. Lost something like 25% of its value. :Q It's quite strange though since they are earning about $1.16 per share. Prognosis on the company is good though so if I ever have some money, I may buy.

And I just told my Dad that AMD was a good buy. Good thing they only dropped about $.75 or so. Whoops. :D

AndrewR: You better do some more research on AMD or your dad may not be too happy with you. Their earnings report was not favorably viewed by many.

As for the market in general, times like this prove that "dollar cost averaging" is the best investment strategy.

Midnight Rambler: There were good and bad views of their earnings report, and HOLD and BUY recommendations from those same analysts. With Intel's falterings lately (1.13GHz PIII now to be rereleased in 2001??), the only company to take up the slack is AMD. Since their P/E is only 8.1 right now, there's a good chance for some gains. Just my take on it.

When their is problems gold prices tend to go up. With the turmoil in the Midle East which don't seemed to ease any time soon, will drive the stock price down and inflation up. (Inflation is already started in France...their infaltion has gone up over 2%).

This trend will not ease till the Midle East turmoil stop or we look some where eles for our oil (America import %80 of its oil).

Other wise watch the gold price to jump to $500.00 during the stock market crash in 82/83 & 87, and it hung around $400 during the gulf war. As you all can see, currently gold is below $300 and is on the rise.

4824guy Humour is often used to temper the pain of a situation, and there are much worse things in the world than losing money.
