enable your PM, you would prolly get more responses, btw its easy, i use it to download official builds of mandrake linux, you just click the link and it will pop open your bit torrent client and you download the file, VERY EASY.
 
get peer guardian, never run bittorrent without peer guardian.

use azureus i get 200k/s and higher

There's a lot of reasons bt might not be running fast. One is if your using dial up (sounds stupid but I've known stupid people). Another is enabling certain ports and what not. Also if your using a program that has a capped upload it will cap your download as well. If you do some searches I'm sure you'll find answers to your speed problem.
