I can't say Obama is a perfect relation to star trek idealigy (that no one suffers, basically the highest end of humanity), but he is close enough. Thought US polices the world, it has policed the world at least past 8 years only for its benefit because of Bush and his national security. What we need to do now and forward is not just think about our selves but think about others. And we need a president like that. In my opinion, we need all give Obama this chance as president all 2 terms.

I'll give a perfect example why we can't elect McCain and why. My brother, few days ago I asked him, who you voting for, he said Obama. Then I was curious and asked you have any friends who support Bush/McCain. He said I used to, but he is not my friend anymore and all my friends are voting for Obama. My point is that even before he knew about Obama, his friends and him are voting for him. What does it say. It says how people connect and how they share values. Now lets switch to Bush and McCain. These two guys are like best buddies. So what does that mean, they think similar. He has a similar path as Bush. May be not exactly the same but similar. My point is that, if you vote for McCain you will vote for Bush. Now those Bush supporters, think about it. In the past 8 years, what has Bush done to improve your life. Why is Bush not fighting to decrease oil prices right now. Why is he not actively involved in the house crisis. Why isn't he involved in the infrastracture to create jobs and many other hundreds of issues. You can see that this path is very very bad, and I feel McCain "might" get involved within his first year of presidency because of media, etc pressure, but after that he will seat there and do nothing like the president we have now called Bush. People have to make this connection, if you don't see this connection, then DO NOT VOTE, do not go to the polls Nov 4th. That is all I can say.

Now I know there are like 90% of Obama supporters around here, but those few who are here, pass it on, be smart, realize, think about this. You know a lot of McCain suporters and only like 5% of all comments make sense. Make of them make irrational comments that he is a terrorist, muslim, anti-christ. If people only listed the issues, and compared, may be they would just to a conclusion that McCain is not right for me, Obama is not right for me, Barr is not right for me, then I will let American people decide. Thats how I was in 2004. I let the American people decide, and didn't vote. But I feel the burden now, I feel that we can't have this slow pace. We need an active president, that would propose ideas on weekly, come on TV and talk to American people how we going to fix many issues that the Bush administration has created.

Now to those people who hard core christians. I know you hate Obama, however, when its gonna get worse and slowly worse and you will have trouble supporting your self. Are you willing to destroy your life because of your religion? Are you that stubborn that you won't help others. Do you only think about your self? What about your family. Will you make them suffer? Have you talked to your family who they support? Had an intelligent discussion instead of throwing radical opinions? Well think about it.

Now lasty, Hillary supporters. I have come to the conclusion that most of Hillary supports who want to vote for McCain are really republican or independent. All I can say, please stay home, don't vote. Do not vote against, you not going to help hillary. This is not what she wanted. It is the opposite, you will just dissapoint her. So hope to all.

USA Sets New Record for Charitable Donations

International affairs organizations, which include disaster-relief groups, reaped $13.22 billion in donations, a 16% jump from a year earlier. Giving to international causes has increased in recent years amid celebrity attention to overseas issues and media coverage of foreign disasters such as the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Ms. Martin said.

I was planning on not voting because I don't like either candidate, but after reading this, I'm going to make sure I get off my butt and vote for McCain just so I can cancel out your vote.

Are you kidding me? Use the search tool and search for Butterbean. Then come back and say that.

For the sake of your own candidate, shut up and stay shutted upped until the presidential election is over.

On the bright side, I laughed pretty hard reading this post.

Okay I concede, they can fight over it. Either way, the post was a disaster.

Heh yeah, BBean is special all right. I think the OP was at least trying to be thoughtful and such, but it all came out as muddled nonsense in the end. Sort of a stream of consciousness experiment gone awry.

Agreed. Quite tragic. I also appreciate the irony of ZeroIQ pointing out someone's stupidity.

I'm going to take your post seriously.

In my opinion, there is little to nothing any sane president can do to change my life at all, save a draft, to say nothing of improve it. In the end, I'll get up in the morning, go to work, grumble about gas prices, pay my housenote, look passingly at current events, eat dinner with my girlfriend, and go to sleep.

I'm not looking for a president to take an active role in my life's affairs unless something drastic occurs.

I'm a Catholic, and I don't hate Obama. If it weren't for his stance on abortion, I'd vote for him. I happen to believe our presence in Iraq is necessary, and ultimately working towards a good end. I also believe there are more important things than convincing the world of the intrinsic good of this country. If in this country's 230 year history they haven't become convinced of that, they never will be. If anything, our presence in Iraq speaks to the sort of convincing we should be doing: We are backing up with force the convictions we believe in, or should believe in. The America I want is assertive, even if its in the wrong. I'd rather risk being wrong than be paralyzed by indecision. That's what it is to be a leader.

Yes, I do think only of myself and those around me, and those I care about. It's part of being human.

I read the first sentence, saw that you were trying to relate American politics to star trek (with a straight face), and stopped reading. Did you really think this would be taken seriously?

One of the most important rules in debate: don't presume that everyone thinks the same way you do. You think only of yourself and those around you (which is perfectly fine); you then extrapolate from your own personal experience that this is what all humans do. This is no better than someone saying "everyone wants free abortions available from the state" or "belief in God is a fundamental human trait." Personally, I find myself in the same boat as you more often than not (thinking only about myself and immediate family/friends), but I never go so far as to speak in platitudes as though all humans did exactly that. If that were so, why would anyone go help clean up in the aftermath of Katrina unless it personally affected them?

I don't really give a shit what the world thinks of the US.

are countries suddenly going to stop dealing the united states because we don't make them feel warm in the cockles of their soul? are they going to say "no thanks, I'm not going to export these goods to the US, they're meanies"? will terrorists throw down their arms and say "aw shucks, their policy towards Israel hasn't changed, but they're some nice guys"? somehow I doubt it.

WOW! I don't honestly care for either candidate running but, after reading/trying to make sense of this post by Mr. Slingshot, I'm going to make every effort to get out and vote for McCain...........

Star Trek is/was nothing but blatant homosexual propaganda. Have you noticed how everyone wore really tight jumpsuits?

That's because they determined rank by the size of the cameltoe or the cock-n-balls. True story.

Why do you think wars happen? Why do you think people hi-jack airplanes loaded with people and crash them into buildings?

I was going to vote for Obama until I read this post. Holy crap, is this the intelligence level of the average Obama supporter?
