Can anyone give me words of wisdom on build? Any thing to watch out for? Do I have to download any firmware updates/driver updates etc?

Well last night after a few beers, I got a wild hair and went and ordered parts for a new pc build.

So did I OK for being a little tweaked?

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. Gaming, Surfing, Movies, etc.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread. 800. (Got close with price after 70 in rebates.)

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc. None, I'm hearing intel is better this generation though

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are. Monitors, mouse and keyboard,Wireless adapter, 750 GB HD, speakers.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads. None.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. Minor Overclock

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with. Have 3 HP 19" digital monitors that I will experiment with eyefinity. or may just use 1 24" monitor I also have.

9. WHEN do you plan to build it? Ordered the parts last night after a few beers and double shot of crown.

I'm guessing you went for the cheapest Z68 board and didn't mind ASrock? meh. Should work fine. I would have gone MSI for the mainboard though- in general I try not to skimp on the component that controls so much of your PC.

There are a dozen cheaper Z68 boards, some of them MSI. Overall the Extreme3 is tremendous value for the features it offers, and there's no particular reason to think it's any less reliable than more expensive units.

Agree 100%.

OP, as for the build, you did alright. I would have gotten only 8GB of RAM, an ASRock Pro3, an XFX Core 650W from NCIXUS and used the extra money on a 6950 2GB or GTX 560 Ti (since you listed gaming first).

I don't want to hear what they current have if a 19" 1280x1024 monitor is an upgrade. D:

Anyway, the ASUS that Ken linked is pretty good for the price. Another popular choice is the IPS236V for $180.
