Didn't notice until this morning as it was dark out when I went to my car to go home after work yesterday. An asshole in a semi hit my car and moved it a good 3ft yesterday. Luckily it was with his tire so the damage isn't bad, but my bumper is scuffed up, rear light cracked, spoiler pushed forward and the outside of my trunk is slightly scraped and dented.

I found the footage on our security cameras, but as you can see, you can't make out any identifying factors on the semi besides it being white, mainly. There's a semi repair shop two buildings over, that has a semi parked there. Talked to the guys there and they say they don't have any drivers, and that it was probably one of the African Muslim (they used another term) guys that brings trucks to them to work on. I've seen these guys around here and can definitely attest to their horrible driving skills.

The cops already showed up and said they couldn't do anything. I have pretty basic coverage on the car so we'll see what insurance has to say...
 
Ok. This is where you go to the repair shop and tell them that you can do this the easy way or the hard way.

You know when that truck left. Ergo, you know when he paid. The repair place gave him an invoice, he paid and signed it. What I'm saying is, that repair place knows EXACTLY who hit you. If they don't want to play nice, tell them you're sending the footage to your insurance and they can deal with their lawyers.

Cop stopped by and was basically like... yeah, that's probably the truck out there, but legally, that video just shows an unidentified white truck. Sorry.

Good news is, my basic insurance without collision or comprehensive is going to cover the repairs. Kind of a crappy $300 deductible however, I get a free rental that I don't get except for uninsured motorist related claims. That, and I can take it to any shop I want for the actual repairs. Yay, I hate insurance just a tiny bit less today.

call the local news channel. they will get in the repair shops face about it much better than you can. unless you have connections to unsavory people that can lean on them.
 
Way back, I was driving a semi making deliveries from Eugene, OR all the way up to the CA border. Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, were all part of my regular stops. The trailer I drove was only a 35 ft unit, but it's still long for city streets.

I was making a delivery into an alley in downtown Tacoma. I knew this ahead of time, so I "shortened up" the length of the rig. I slid the fifth wheel all the way forward, then slid the trailer axles all the way forward, thus reducing the overall length by about six feet. This process allows for greater maneuverability, like turning into alleys.

I get down there, move to the middle of the main street, then turn right into the alley. As I get parked, a jogger comes up and says "you hit a car back there." I go look, and sho 'nuff. The rear corner of the trailer scraped from just above the front wheel to all the way to the middle of the back door. Oops.

I left all the info the owner would need, then went about my business. I found out later the owner of car worked at the store I was delivering to... 😱
 
Damn too bad you could not make out their DOt number. Every company needs a DOT number and by knowing what company you can figure out who's truck was there. Should be posted on either side of the truck. If you can make out a number go to safersys.org and do a company snapshot by DOT number and it will give you all of their info. Hopefully you get this worked out. BTW thats a Freightliner Century short nose. High sleeper. If that helps. Sorry man hope this all gets figured out.
 
Maybe it's a bad angle of the camera, but why are you parked in what appears to be in the entryway of where that truck came out? If your car needs to be in that area, you needed to drive around and find a new parking place and walk awhile.

The car is fixed - I got my spoiler repainted for $150 cash on the side while it was in the shop which was something I had been meaning to do anyway. Looks great, however the shop somehow wasn't able to call the dealership to obtain the correct 850R emblem, so my car just has 850 on it currently. Not a huge deal and they're going to fix it. Insurance covered everything minus the $300 H&R deductible. It would have been $200 if I could have ID'd the guy. Total was over $2200 for the insurance work from a check of ~$800 Progressive initially tried to give me. LOL

As far as the spot, The ass of my car was right at the yellow pole you can see in the vid - so yes, it's definitely kind of a stupid spot I took in a hurry. However, there are dumpsters that extend into the driveway beyond that as you can see. People park there every day. I won't be parking there ever again. I saw another semi nearly hit a coworker's car there a few weeks ago.

good to hear all is back together. And ya, I wouldnt park there again. But, Really, how were you supposed to know that a semi was going to run over your car if you parked there? now you know and can tell others I guess!
