I'll have to look into those. Have a headphone jack on my new HDTV and my crappy Koss cans aren't doing it justice (and I tend to watch TV late and/or fight the loud drone of the wall air conditioner in the room).

I've had my 280s for about 6 years now probably. 580s were more recent.

I've totally avoiding getting into car audio.

Headphones I've made a minimal investment of two pairs, a portable player, and a basic portable amp.

Speakers at home I'll go nuts on. Other than that, I can't afford anything else 😛

Get the JVC HA-RX700 or 900 and realize that you saved much more money for better sound, from what I've read. I have the JVCs, but have only read about the 280s. JVCs seem to be better based on that. And $35 or $55.

I enjoy my HD280s a lot. However, it certainly doesn't keep me from wanting to upgrade my HT system. They're nice when I want to listen to something loud when my family's sleeping and when I game online.

I much prefer the HA-RX700s to the SR-60s. SR-60s lack bass, too harsh, leak sound, etc.

Welllll... the HD280 Pro are good for drums and DJ use because of the isolation they provide. The beefy construction / benefit of isolation is some of what you are paying for with the HD280 Pro. I've had mine for over 4 years and they sound fine, but the plastic on the band has begun to crack. Still, they work and fit snug / are very comfortable for extended use. I rarely use them though. Speakers are sooo much better.

I got some 280 pro's also and They're great. A little tight, but I just stretched them over my PC case when not used for a few weeks and they're fine now

Personally I'm a Grado fanboy through and through (SR60s were my first hi-fi set), but I think the JVC RX700s are probably the closest to the Grados in sound out of all the cheapie closed sets I've tried (DT770, A-T AD700, HD280, HD202). For $30, definitely one of the best headphone buys I've ever made - these things should be on the level of KSC75 fame, but for big circumaural closed cans! 😀

Yeah, decide which headphones you want and buy them at the least-expensive reputable retailer. I bought mine from B&H, because they were the cheapest at the time. I've seen good sales at buy.com and Amazon as well.

Dakmart tends to have prices at the MSRP (see, "ridiculously overpriced") for most things, but their refurbished items are usually priced as a steal. They still come with the Sennheiser 2 year warranty, too. If you want a good deal, try their HD 205's for about $18 shipped ($12 if you buy through their buy.com listing)
