Hooking up a DVD Rom drive...

I just got a DVD rom drive and I was just wondering. If I'm only going to be using it to watch DVDs in WinDVD do I need to hook up the audio cable directly to my sound card or does everything come through the IDE cable?
thanks,
-doug

if you have win2k or XP you can use digital audio (no need for analog sound cable) by going into audio properties then selecting the cdrom drives properties and checking use digital audio. It will use the IDE cable and no other cables are necessary for sound or whatnot.

Hi dmw16,

I'm no expert but I think You have to hook it up to the sound card to make it work right...

I just hooked mine up exactly like my CD-RoM and it works great.

Love You!

Hi Poncherelli, and kly1222,

I'm using Win98 and a Soundblaster Live Sound Card and have DVD rom set as Master, can I still use just the IDE Cable only set up?

Thanks and Love You!
