Honor student beaten to a pulp by police

Just to clear something up really quickly that a couple people have brought up.

I worked as an EMT in Pittsburgh. There aren't really any "black" neighborhoods. There are bad neighborhoods, tons of them, but they are not exclusively black. 3 white guys in the hood don't stick out because there are tons of poor white people in Pittsburgh. The city isn't like Harlem where a white person would look unusual. The bad areas are a pretty even mix.

He ran from three white guys who said they were police.

fixed.

I'm not at all racist, but I'd be naive to think that no one else is. If I were a 5'6" 160-lb black guy by myself and saw 3 big white guys get out of a car, I'd run too. Anyone can say they are police or flash a badge they bought from the toy store. That doesn't mean they are and doesn't mean they're not going to come and beat you to a pulp (oh wait, they did that even though they were police).

They shouldn't have jumped out of the car and started running at him yelling and screaming. Whether or not they are yelling "I'm gonna kill you", "We're the police", or "you've won a million dollars", people are going to run. Poor approach taken by the police.

This. I fail to see how a 5'6 150 youth who appears suspicious requires a confrontational approach (loud, running, yelling). He might not have ran if they approached slower.

Also, knee strikes/punches to subdue a 150 pound kid? Pathetic.

I want to know how the ccdw holders would react if 3 guys jumped out of a car 100 ft away yelling "where the drugs, where the money, we da cops" and running towards you at full speed?

First thing is that the typical gun-toting ATOT'er will take a stance of dominance, pull the gun and yell right back, "The gun's right here bitches!" then proceed to blow said 3 guys away.

Second thing is then said typical ATOT'er would wake up from their e-peen dream and have to go change their undies and sheets in preparation for the follow-up dream involving many pointy elbows.

I think it's hilarious that most people focus on the fact that he ran. Who cares if he ran? Even if he had been selling weed around the corner he shouldn't have had the shit kicked out of him.

Running from police is grounds for at least some kind of beating, however that doesn't even remotely apply in this case.

Three big guys jump out of a car not dressed as police and quickly start walking directly towards you, I don't know anyone who wouldn't run. It doesn't matter if they say they are police, anybody could say they are the police(and people sometimes do that) to get close to you or into your house. Without undeniable immediate proof that they are the police(words don't count), there are no grounds for beating someone who legitimately thought you were trying to hurt them and ran from you.

And what would the smart honor student do in this case?

Haven't you been paying attention to the cop apologist brigade? The guy should have looked at three guys jumping out of a car and headed straight for him, and immediately laid down on the ground and put his hands over his head. Sure they could've been gang bangers or muggers, but they said they were cops, surely they wouldn't lie about such a thing. And besides, he was black and walking on the street and carrying a mountain dew bottle, he was clearly up to SOMETHING.

And besides, why are you getting worked up about this? Don't you understand that cops are human and make mistakes from time to time? Just because their mistakes tend to wreck people's lives and get people killed is no excuse to hold them to some kind of weird higher standard. You really need to grow up, Dari.

I know its an old thread, but heres an update:

Police Hope To Re-File Charges Against Beaten CAPA Student

http://www.wpxi.com/news/22738974/detail.html

PITTSBURGH -- All charges have been dropped against a Creative and Performing Arts High School student who has accused three city police officers of beating him during his arrest.

The FBI continues to investigate civil rights allegations made by Jordan Miles, 18, who was charged with assaulting the officers on Jan. 12 in Homewood.

On Thursday, Miles appeared in court and all charges against him were dropped.

Police charged Miles because, they said, he fought with the officers who thought a "heavy object" in his coat was a gun. It turned out to be a bottle of Mountain Dew.

In court, when asked what crime Miles committed, arresting officer Michael Saldutte testified, "Loitering. Because of the high crime area and standing next to the house, it could have been a burglary."

.......

(More to article... just cut it short for the sake of brevity. )

In the meantime, Target 11 uncovered two of the three officers involved are already facing federal lawsuits.
Saldutte is accused of using excessive force during an arrest last year. Saldutte said Jamil Gray resisted after a chase and reasonable force had to be used.
Officer David Sisak is named in another federal civil lawsuit. He is accused of using racial profiling.
James Stringer said he was stopped, seized, arrested and jailed because of his race.
Another complaint was also filed with the Citizens Review Board. The complaint accuses Sisak of using excessive force while restraining a mentally-challenged woman.
The board ordered Sisak to undergo crisis intervention training.

here's the rest of the goodies

*random muscled dudes in reg clothes jump out of a car, start running towards you*

"Freeze it's the police"

I'd run like hell too, or shot at them if I had a firearm. If I was in that situation I'd feel I'd either be beat up, rolled or any other violent thing no matter what some random ass meathead thug POS who claimed to be a cop yelled out.

But this honor student IS extremely smart. He just hit the civil suit lottery. Six-figure settlement? No problemo.
