He ran from the police. That answers the question on what action he choose to deserve what he got.

There is always a choice - he made the wrong one. Actions and decisions have consequences, let's hope he learned that.

"Miles' mother said the officers did not identify themselves as police to her son"

Word.

Must be one of those "smart" people who do not have an ounce of common sense.

Excel.

Maybe try reading the article instead of agreeing with the first post after skimming the smaller words you can understand. You must be one of those "dumb" people whos a fucking idiot.

Bullshit, you don't beat up a fuckin' 5'6" cello player because you don't like the way he looks. I guess it's alright for cops to go out queer bashing too, eh? I'm sure they're guilty of something. They will be after the report's filed anyway :^S

He did not identify himself as a cello player.

:awe:

Hey jlee, according to the kid all he heard was "where's the money", "where's the guns", "where's the drugs?" is it probable the cops said this?

i totally understand that as an undercover cop you are on the look out for suspicious activities and people. but when you approach a suspect while undercover shouldn't you presume that they could misidentify you unless you are perfectly clear in what you say and do to the suspect to make clear you are a police officer? if you yell out accusations like "where's the drugs" or "where's the money" along with " stop police", wouldn't this just confuse an innocent person because it kind of sounds more like threats from a street thug than what you'd hear from a police officer?

If I say it's not probable, then people will say I'm biased and I'm only saying that because I'm an officer. 😛

I will say that people lie. A lot. I would like to think that in the vast majority of circumstances, any officer's report will be more accurate than what the involved/arrested suspect says. Unfortunately, and also obviously, I can't guarantee that.

"Miles' mother said the officers did not identify themselves as police to her son"

Who cares what she said? Was she there?

The complaint says the police officers believed Miles was engaged in criminal activity and possibly armed with a "large heavy object." The object turned out to be a bottle of Mountain Dew.

That's your problem...with all that high fructose syrup it's considered a deadly weapon.

I'll check back in a bit - got called in to drive someone to jail. Don't beat up on me too bad while I'm gone. 😛

Quick...while he's gone, someone stick a banana in his tailpipe...()🙂

I've had the "pleasure" of knowing both good cops and bad cops...most of the bad cops were dirty as hell, and more than a couple ended up getting busted for major felonies and got prison time for their behavior. Unfortunately, not nearly enough bad cops actually get caught, and many who do get caught face no penalties because other dirty cops sweep it under the rug.

GOOD cops are what we the public pay our taxes for. Even though I have quite an extensive felony record as a youth, I'm still a strong supporter of the cops. They have a tough job to do...and get little support in doing it.
Most of them deserve sizeable raises.

Dirty cops should be taken out behind the precinct house and given a double tap to the back of the head...then their families should be charged for the bullets and clean-up.

jlee, from your comments that I've read on here, I think you fall into the "good cop" category. Keep it up, will ya?

If I heard stuff like that yelled at me before they said Pittsburgh Police, I would get the wrong idea, too.

Also, JLee, it seems like your in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kinda situation.

And as you said, people lie... and cops are people too, prone to the same human weaknesses and vices that the rest of are susceptible too. In an ideal world, we wouldn't need cops, but right now we need them and in an ideal system, they would be above reproach when it comes to their statements and actions, but unfortunately this has been shown to always be true.

Heck, we could apply the same standard to our elected officials, they should act in a manner befitting their office, yet they are invovled in illegal / shady dealings and such.

It happens all across the board...with cops, with politicians ( local, state and federal), etc. Lets not hang these people out to dry because of one bad act. In the end, we need to let this get investigated and see what happens from there. Lets not condemn any bod, the officers or kid, for one act stupidity. Until we know what happens for sure, lets not try this in the court of public opinions.

Huh, this version of events sounds a lot different then the sugar coated version put out by CNN (AP?)

Jordan Miles, 18, said the officers, who were in plain clothes, did not identify themselves as police officers when they approached him outside his house at 11 p.m. on Jan. 12, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. He said he fought them because he believed they were criminals.

If he did admit to fighting the police...well...there goes his civil rights complaint.

Look, I don't care if you are black, white, asian, or whatever, simple fact of the matter is if you don't act like an idiot you won't be put in these situations.

Run for the police....you are going to get fucked up.
Fight the police....you are going to get fucked up.
Reach for something while being interviewed by the police...you are going to get fucked up.

The problem isn't the police, rather this generation of youth who thinks that they are some how special and entitled to act like jack asses in public without any consequences or thinks they do not have to respect any authority.

You are such a fuckijn tool....nowhere in the article does it say the police identified themselves!

I bet if it was you , you would be screaming at the top of your lungs...i doubt you would wait around if 3 guys got out of their car and tried to grab you......sad such a freakin tool you are...

Well, he earned it hard but it will very probably get him a few million dollars. Damn, they were undercover policemen after all. Anyone can say he's police.

I also ran from the police once. To be more accurate, they chased my car through a whole forest and I finally got stopped by a road block. 🙂 They never even touched me. They asked why I ran and I told them that I was afraid since they were in an unmarked vehicle. I thought they wanted to kill me and rob me. They were in uniform though. It was a border patrol btw.

It happened in Hungary btw. I will never try that in the US. 🙂

Fuck you. If you are some nerdy kid walking down a dark street and 3 guys jump out of a car and come after you, your first action is to run like hell. It is the flight reaction and this kid has probably been conditioned to it from years of bullying. He plays the fucking viola for christ's sake. And insult to injury he only made it a few feet before falling on his face.

The officers, who say they did identify themselves, have been reassigned to uniform duty while the case is investigated, Police Chief Nate Harper said.

Where I grew up you either ran from the police or got beat up. There was no "maybe".

Yeah can you believe all these punk viola players having the audacity to walk around on the sidewalk like they own the place. /shakes fist.

As with most of these threads on ATOT, im sure there is more to the story & it will come out in court.

The kid was black...period. He wasn't acting suspicious. He was walking down a street with a freaking BEVERAGE. The cops were obviously profiling.
Don't you know? Walking while black is probable cause to be detained and possibly arrested if the accused happens to be very black in skin color. The lighter the skin color, the lighter the charges...

Oh and don't use the "it's a mountain dew!" as an excuse, there is NO EXCUSE to walk down the street while you are black.

His image sure changed over a couple of days

So, in Pittsburgh, grown white men jump out of cars pretending to be police in the shitty part of town and beat up random black kids?

Wow, scary place.
