Honeymoon - Where to go After 6 days in crete ?

Hello,


I'm going to Sea Side hotel in Crete for 6 days...
staying in a private pool room ,
I just want to have fun and relax, sun and sea 🙂

After 6 days I want to go to somewhere which I don't know where,
I was in Paris and London,
Lets say that im looking for a Romantic city to visit...

Prague came to my mind, is it a good route from Crete to Prague?
I don't want to go to Athena , I got a feeling that's its not the best choice to make and go there....
Prague is more romantic and beautiful, a lot of people who have been there told me its very beautiful city, and they recommend it...

Would love to hear your suggestions and recommendation

My wife and I went to Prague around 2002. It's our favorite European city. Everything was very inexpensive (National Opera tickets were ~$6) and the architecture is beautiful, at least in the old town. The new town area is nice too but doesn't have the charm of the old town. You can walk anywhere you need to in the old town but I'd recommend good walking shoes or day-hikers. We stayed at a place that had free breakfast buffets so our typical routine was to get up, eat breakfast then walk around town for a while until we found a place for lunch.

I'm not sure about getting there from Crete though.
 
Brugge. See the movie first - In Brugges. It's VERY romantic. Ghent is good too. Stockholm is very romantic and is great during the summer. I think Prague is a good option too. Dubrovnik was really romantic when I was there but it's been a while. Venice is an obvious choice but I don't recommend it. I personally didn't find it romantic at all.
 
Prague has gotten more expensive in the last ten years, but it still a very beautiful city and a must see as far as Eastern European tourist destinations go. Another place to consider is Cesky Krumlov. Basically a little Prague but without a lot of the city development and a lot less tourists.

I think its gonna be Prague...
but everyone at the travel agent office told me its abit of strange mix between crete and prague...
and traveling between crete and prague is a problem
dont know why...
i think that i will book every thing online, i already found the flights...

if not Prague, i will consider Brugge ,

Have you considered just doing Santorini or are you set on no more islands?

If it helps, I spent my anniversary in Brugge. I just think that city is tip-top for a romantic getaway. Just make sure you spend a day in Gent too since it's so close.

Another option would be the castle and romantic road in Germany. I haven't been to many places there but you could probably find a really nice and romantic town on those routes.
 
OP, I would suggest thinking about what you and your wife enjoy. Consider your interest/preferences etc.

Plan your trip around that vs someone's suggestion/preference.

There is TONS of places in Europe that will/can satisfy just about any flavor you might have. Pick accordingly.

I've been to Prague and I don't see it be any different than just about any other city in Europe. You can find nice cozy old fashioned downtown in just about any of these cities.....

Really? I know there is a lot of old world stuff in Europe. But the shear concentration of it in Prague is impressive. You could spend an entire day in hracany castle alone, and that is one tiny part of the city.
 
That's all a serious waste of money. It's so much better to take your honeymoon a year later when the stress and memories of your wedding aren't so fresh.

Seriously, put your money in a 6 month CD and go somewhere a year from now. You're barely going to remember it as you're overloaded with experiences from your wedding!

You can find castles in every single country in Europe (almost). I know Poland has 100s of them.......and Prague is no different than say Krakow/Warsaw and just about any other city in Europe.

Every city has it's charm/history etc. Prague doesn't really stand out much from the others.

I think you're going to find yourself in a minority.

Prague has a great city center. So does Krakow. And Stockholm. However they are not the same. I was just in Brussels. Does Prague stand out from Brussels? YEAH! Brussels pretty much sucks and is not romantic in the slightest. Prague on the other hand is incredibly charming and a great place to spend some time. Furthermore comparing it to a city like Warsaw that had to be rebuilt is kinda doing the OP a disservice. Overall Prague definitely sticks out.

With that said I have taken the tram outside of the city center and Prague gets kinda ugly really fast. For a short trip though where you're only going to be in the historic center I think it's great, romantic, and the OP will enjoy it if he so chooses.

Another suggestion: Salzburg. Great city for your purposes OP.

What's romantic to YOU is not really what might be romantic to others or OP/and his wife.

Different strokes for different folks is what I'm saying.

Each and every city has it's charm. Sure Warsaw was rebuild but it was rebuild exactly to what it once was before war. You also have a palace/city walls right downtown.

Each city will offer you something different. You can't say "one is the best" and Prague is certainly not "the best" IMO, again I've been there.

Correct, Easter Europe gets pretty ugly the second you step outside of the cities.

Western Europe is better for back road driving/suburbs "out of city" travel IMO.
 
Vdub I think we can at least suggest some romantic cities. Yeah they're opinions but that's ok. I said above that Venice wasn't romantic to me at all. Maybe when I'm 50 it will be but right now it's just a pigeon and tourist infested city to me 😛 So of course there's some variation.

Anyone been to Prague lately? The first time I was there (late 90's) beers were a quarter. Second time (early 00's) they were like $3 but you could still find them in the city center for a quarter or 50 cents if you tried. I'm afraid to ask. If there's no cheap beer in Prague then you might as well not go.

This I will agree on. Venice is simply a tourist trap. On top of it it's filthy and disgusting.....canals full of sewage and garbage everywhere.

For whatever it's worth, when I was in Warsaw/POland 3 years back I noticed that EVERYTHING was WAY more expensive than in US.

HOWEVER, prices of restaurants /bars/beer etc was DIRT cheap. My bro and I had a nice dinner/app + 4-5 beers and I think the total bill was something like $16 bucks.

TONS of Western Europe fly to Warsaw just to party over the weekend. Flights are cheap and in general it's cheaper to fly out to hang out vs staying in England etc.

There was TONS of English folks in Warsaw, my bro said many come on weekend basis hehe

Poland was crazy cheap when I was there a dozen years ago. Bulgaria was probably half the price though. I ate and drank like a King. I don't mean that as an expression either. I pretty much was a King there. Bulgaria was approaching South East Asia prices and I was arguably the richest person in Sofia during my stay there. A $5 bill could buy you a principality and a couple slaves. I kid. I kid. I imagine it's more expensive but if all the Bulgarian gypsies and beggars are any indication I can't imagine their economy being that stellar even today.

Yea, Poland might be the most expensive out of Easter European countries as they have done quite well during rescission/overall.

I found EVERYTHING more expensive than US other than places to eat. I really have NO clue how people survive there (average salary is $1500 a month)

As a tourist, in any European city, you are at the mercy of the tourist prices around you. If I go to the Old Town in Stockholm the prices are very very high. In any of these cities you need a guide book with you so that you have some local options to choose from that won't break the bank or so that you can find things outside of the tourist hotspots.

As far as Greece I can't justify those dumb prices anymore. Greece is great and all but not for 5x the prices that I paid. I think Turkey is the better bargain if you're in that area. If you gotta do Santorini though you gotta do it...

I meant just general prices. Electronics, Groceries etc

None Tourist related stuff. Besides I didn't really go there as a tourist. I grew up/lived in Poland and was visiting my brother who lives there.

People aren't as materialistic here. If you buy electronics less often then the prices aren't that big a deal.

Groceries are not that expensive though. I find Stockholm to be on par with most places I've lived in CA for food. The quality isn't as good though since everything is shipped here.

Things even out when you factor in healthcare, transportation, and other expenses that are generally much higher in the US.

I disagree. If you want to go somewhere romantic in Italy, go to Tuscany or Chinque Terre (sp?). Venice is overcrowded and touristy. The gondola rides are a complete ripoff and arent that romantic.
