Many people I know with social work, counselling, etc. degrees never did anything related to the major. Most of them married into money or went into a higher paying industry.

I was just being completely honest. At least I have that going for me. The professor seemed amused by my remarks, lol.

ayup. I actually want to help people, i have an unrelenting drive to....but I keep getting into situations where those around me CLAIM They do, but do nothing to do it. it's a pain in the ass

You know, in that aspect, you do what you want to do and don't think about their ideals. Most of them hold themselves and their colleagues on pedestals due to their professions.

Sounds like you don't really wonder their motives. You just want to tell them they're phony a-holes who want to marry into money.

Usually you will find people prefer a little sugar to a cup of arsenic.
Even a fool is counted wise till he opens his mouth and removes all doubt.
Just look at it as a character flaw you need to work on.

what did you expect when you told a room full of "people" that you do not like "people"? did you want them to get up and clap for you?

that's like a KKK member going into the million man march and saying "i don't like black people" and expecting to get an applause.

the OP is a douche.

Also worth noting, a public-hostile attitude is the worst possible one to have when working with computers. Those types of people are real idiots and cause applications to be really unfriendly because they figure anyone who can't figure out their mystery meat navigation and absurd error messages don't mater.

"I hate users, they don't stop bitching when I break the back button in their web browser."

I didn't expect them to do anything. I was just fed up with it all.

Again, I don't see how being honest makes me a douche. I see a lot of hipocricy going on in this thread considering how often people on here complain about how stupid everyone else is. It's just that I'm the target this time. It's funny how different boards react to the same message. I posted this on another one and didn't get all the name calling that I'm getting here. I guess that everyone on ATOT spends their free time volunteering for charities and sponsoring the starving children in Africa.

My longterm goals are not set in stone at the moment, but I do know one thing..... the years of studying Public Administration have shown me that I want absolutely NOTHING to do with the public. I don't like people and I really don't like politics. I'm hoping to end up somewhere in the computer world where I can work alone as much as possible. Computers make sense to me but people do not."

.... the class room goes silent and everyone turns around and looks at me like I am there to eat their children.....

You can be honest without feeling compelled to say rude things to people all the time. It's not dishonest to just refrain from your verbal diarrhea.

You need to work on not being an arrogant, know-it-all prick, who thinks WAY too highly of himself...

I prefer his honesty. Other people lie through their teeth just to "look good." Like the poster I am quoting.
