Alfa,

By sheer numbers, the chance that a U.S. civilian will be cognizant of what military service actually means is getting more remote, I mean the percentage of civilians is getting larger and larger. All this co-worker sees are movies and news. You should nail his mom and make certain he walks in afterwards. Immediately assume a stance of dominance. Sort of like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. The USMC issues those rubber gloves, so be sure to keep one on hand at all times.

Well to be fair this happens just as much in non-military relationships. Cheaters will cheat, eventually.

To be fair, you probably have not seen how crowded the bars around a navy base get with women the first two weekends after a carrier group deploys.

It is incredible. One week, the bars are empty. The next few weeks, the bars are full of women. Then realize a carrier group just left a week ago. Then watch the pattern repeat itself.

I guess, one way to think of it is young women left alone near a military base full of horny, young, and fit men. At least the Marines are fit, the Navy sailors not so much. The temptation is extreme.

They are at best inconsiderate speaking the unbridled truth and at worst inconsiderate assholes.

In either case, it opens the door to you breaking the tough news to her, that she is about to endure a tough relationship and has to be "all in" or "all out".

My mother was an Army wife for 20+ years. She was divorced twice. The first time was due to my father cheating while away at school. The second divorce happened after my step-father retired from 22 years service.

My mother is one of the toughest women I know, in her case, the soldiers were the weak ones. So, she needed to have a reality check in some way, even if you don't agree with the method employed.

I was at my Officer Basic Course for the Army for 5 months last year, the longest my wife and I had been apart in our 12 years of being together. She came through with flying colors for working full-time and taking care of three kids, one with ADHD and two under the age of 5. She's a keeper, hope yours measures up too.

Thats great to hear! Thanks for posting
A reason for dating her is that I love her and I trust her. Enough said.

I would like to thanks to all the people who wished me good luck, I most likely will need it ;)

Being an immigrant I do believe that this is a good way to give back to one of the greatest countries in the history of this earth.

I am proud to serve this country

Or she'll sleep around the whole time he's deployed... Growing up right next to the largest army base in the US, aside from the few years the big red one wasn't stationed there, you learn these things. It's actually one of the main reasons I wouldn't join.

Army =! Marines
Army whores =! Marines SOs

Yeah fuckin' right. BAH chasers are BAH chasers. It doesn't matter what branch it comes from. There isn't a wits difference between Army wives and Marine wives. If anything I'd say Marines tend to be bigger risk takers.

That's the way I see it. If men were left alone by their wives in a town full of swim suit models, how faithful do you think they could manage to be? I think the typical military marriage would benefit from being an "open" type relationship. Not saying that no one can stay monogamous, just saying the lifestyle doesn't lend itself to doing so.

No, it's worse in military relationships. This is a clear and indisputable statistical fact.

There is also the fact that if you're off in some other country with your guys you've just been to combat with and have a weekend off or whatever you're going to go bar hopping and lots of sucky-sucky. I knew a girl last year who's husband worked on an oil rig and would get shore leave in Singapore with his co-workers. I used to always joke about what do I get for $10 dolla and all that. She insisted he was not cheating, but really if you've been away for months and you're with your buddies in a bar in Singapore or Thailand and they're getting sucky sucky and you haven't seen any action in months, let's get real. Anyway, yep, they are now divorced because he was getting strange on the side.

All that said, good luck to OP. My guess is you never get shot at :)
