Honestly: Is the Dell 2001FP really good for gaming?

I wanna get me a 21" screen and I'm taking the Dell 2001FP in consideration. Is there maybe just a new Dell monitor on the block? And how is the 2001FP for gaming? What about the Widescreen 2005FPW? They're incredibly cheap here, the 2001FP goes for $620(Switzerland).

Thanks for any informatiooooooooon.

From reviews I've seen it's 16ms response time seems adequate for gaming. If you do a search of "2001FP gaming" in google the reviews seems to agree on that

Oh yeah you'd need the top-end range of graphic card to do 1600*1280 resolution gaming.

Widescreen is supported by some games. But I can't comment on that.

Hm, I currently have a SyncMaster 191T which I gonna upgrade with the 2005FPW, the 2405FPW will be too expensive and if I wanted to, I could get just another 2005FPW :) Where do you apply the coupons when you order thru Dell?

I am planning to buy those 4ms 19" LCD monitors in summer. Mainly because they handle 1280*1024

Hm, I don't want to wait til' summer cuz there is a project right now I'm working on and two monitors are just absolutely awesome if you do some programming.

I saw in your other thread that you already ordered the 2005FP but I'll add that I've been playing NFSU 2, UT2k4, COD, and HL2 on my 2001FP with a 6600GT and it plays great. Took about a week to get used to going from a 17in CRT though.

The 2005 (12ms IPS panel) should be a bit faster than the 2001 (16ms IPS), and these panels shouldn't be much slower than those promised 4ms TN panel imo. A 12ms IPS panel like the 2005 is probably equivalent to an 8 ms TN panel, if I'm not mistaken. And when you are not gaming, the quality of the big IPS panels are noticeably better than TN panels, especially in the viewing angles.

I have a Dell 2001FP, and I see absolutely no ghosting at all in any of the games I play. I have Doom3, Half-life2, UT2k4, and a bunch of others. It is a very sweet monitor.

my 17" LG is good, its 16ms response, i cant see any bluring and can play UT2004 for hours on end (or i could when my 9800Pro was working ;)) this was through the DVI. I think that i would get the 2001 because the widescreen ones are a bit hard to get working with games as viewing angles etc need adjusting, not hard to do just a pain

It's been beaten to death in these forums, but just remember that the 2005 has a lower native resolution (1680x1050) than the 2001 (1600x1200), and all of the upcoming 4 ms panels of which I am aware (NEC, Samsung, Viewsonic) have even lower native resolutions (1280x1024).

A fast pixel response is certainly one characteristic of a good gaming monitor, but higher resolutions are where the hottest graphics cards really shine (and that goes double for SLI).

My recommendation would be to either wait for a 4 or 8 ms response 20 inch flat panel or just go ahead and get the Dell 2001FP now.
