Honestly....how far away are we from a coup?

The government has messed with just about everything sacred and now its becoming apparent that they are just starting.

What would it take for you to rebel?

Ask spidey. He seems like he would be in the groups trying to pull it off.

Twenty more years of imperial measurements would put me over the edge.

A coup would depend on the support of the military and unless the attitudes of the average service member have changed drastically from the time when I served there is little danger of that.

No coup happening anytime soon in my estimates.

If I'm right in my calculations this thread will have several key phrases in it that the FBI may be tracking for (if TV FBI is to be believed.)

I would need either a super weapon or unbeatable army.

I think a coup is different than a revolution, so OP's question appears to be muddled, but either way, I don't see any such event happening in my lifetime. But if history has taught us anything, you just never know.

When the people feel their voices have been drowned out by the lobbyists and special interests.

If the US became a bona fide police state, that would likely be the last straw for me.

Surely, we've been moving in that direction since 9/11, but if we ever reached that destination or got a lot closer, that would be it for me.

If you think it began post 9/11 you are myopic. If I had to set an absolute date it would be July 1, 1973.

I suppose when the gov't starts rounding up minorities and stuff.

We are nowhere, NOWHERE, even close to the point of open rebellion. This country will remain exactly the way it is governmentally for a long time.

At what point do people become desperate? So long as life is comfortable and people feel relatively secure then they will not risk their lives or their families.

It is instability. It is panic and fear that would drive people to do desperate things. They would have to feel that the government is a general threat to their safety. Given government handouts, how would we make such an argument?

I believe in very different things than what modern society has provided. I do not approve the actions our government is taking. The entire purpose of our political system is to ensure that these disagreements do not become violent. That our society remains stable without everyone getting what they want.

If they promise everyone everything... then they will eventually fail and instability will rise. I would be just one of millions attempting to survive the consequences of this failure. This is the most likely scenario.

I have a question for you. Would this rebellion necessarily be violent? Perhaps we can convince a state to secede for its own safety before the inevitable collapse of our pyramid schemes. Highly unlikely.

A violent rebellion? No one is stupid enough to take point.

Silly question. Such a thing is not possible, shit you have to adhere to a "Free Speech Zone" around major political gatherings. I know every nutter has a fantasy that their guns protect them from government overreach, but it's a joke. If they want you, they're gonna get you, ask Koresh.

My question was what would it take for you personally to rebel?

You have to love conservatives. They get so nasty when their diapers are dirty. Revolution, there's got to be a revolution. Yeah, I guess so when you smell like that.

We are not close at all to a Coup. Mexico is close to a coup, compare the US to them. Our police are not being openly assaulted and our mayors are not being stoned to death. Sure the problem in Mexico is all blamed on the drug trade, but that is just denying the very real underlying problems in Mexico which fuel the open violence there. Drugs are just a part of the issue, the other issue is Mexican anger over their shitty imcompetant government. Considering that, a coup is nowhere on the radar for the US as we are a stable nation.

Also our military and secret service are so organized that anyone considering it will last about 10 seconds once his plan is in action. If this country ever gets so bad that there is a total breakdown in Government, where even the FBI is no longer competant and we have rival factions taking over towns and attacking the police/military...Then sure a coup is possible. But we are not there yet, even Obama's government is solidly in control everywhere without a doubt as far as FBI/police/military loyalty goes.

If Obama doesn't institute Death Panels I'm going to join the revolution.
I thought we would see FEMA Death Camps this year but it's not looking good, yet another campaign promise broken.
