RM - so was the only thing damaged the front bumper? $1500 seems outrageously high if that is the case. And yes, the Camry sucks 🙂

I guess I'm going to stay with Toyota after all, I don't want to be at the mercy of Honda of America, I just want a reliable car.

Honda charges $4500 for a tranny replacement on an accord? No f-ing wonder they can afford to give you one for free. Good gawd!

Tranny failure at 84K, wtf? either you didnt change ATF regularly or it's a lemon (in that case they better fix it for free)

Around $844 for parts & labor plus car rental ($150).

a guy i knew had a problem with his 2000 Accord V6 tranny. They had to rebuild it twice because the first time they fixed it he took it around the block and it had the same problem.

EXACTLY what I was thinking!! 4500 bucks for a tranny rebuild?!

No WAY I'm buying Honda if all there repairs are a rape you in the ass variety like the trannies.

My advice? If all repairs run in that price range, DONT BUY HONDA!!! :Q

98 Honda Accord LX-V6
84k miles on the car
Completely out of warranty whatsoever
Honda cover it under goodwill repair!

My word of advice: BUY HONDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHA!!!!!

Why? So I can own a piece of overpriced crap that won't even make it to 100k without having major problems? Eat Rice, don't drive it.

I have Korean friends who wouldn't touch a Hyundai or a Kia with a ten-foot pole.
Yeah the thing about their 10-year warranty is... you NEED it. 😉

Heh, if people maintained their car regularly, they wouldn't have to worry about dishing out $ in the long run. As for making it past 100k, I've seen Hondas reach 400k w/o any major probs.

Um, no and no. 6th generation trannies (V6 in particular but not excluding I4's) are notorious for crapping out. Honda recently extended the warranties on the 2000-2001 warranties to 7 years on the transmissions.

Better extend that from 2000-2001 to 1998-2001. Them older Accord got crappy trannies also.

yup, it's a known problem with that generation.

Wait, let me get this straight...

You own a car that is 6 years old.
The transmission died before it even reached 100k on the odometer.
You get lucky with having a nice case manager.
Somehow, this is supposed to make us want to buy a Honda....

Yeah, okay.

The thing better last for 200K without mishap or I'll never buy another!
You don't buy many cars do you? 😕
As a matter of fact, no!

I was driving a 1987 Chevy S10 until three months ago. 2.8L V6 (underpowered to begin with) 2WD only made it to 174K. I didn't die, but it was getting some pretty poor gas mileage and it didn't run so well. It was a sad day when I said good-bye to it. 🙁

Wow...quite a lot of honda haters..

:Q

Allright, the tranny is crappy, but Honda is man enough to take care of the matter even when the car is completely out of warranty. How is that not something to cheer about? I doubt any other car makers will be willing to do the same.

I can only imagine what this thread would be like if it was his '99 Ford Taurus. Or '99 Chevy Malibu...

But its a Honda, so this forum recognizes it as a known problem...but thats not a big deal or anything...
