My 2004 Accord had a recall (something about replacing the fabric that covers the airbag under the horn).

I still haven't gotten it done.

actually, what does a 'recall' do? does Honda take away the odyssey and give you a new one?

you bring it into a dealer and they fix or replace the faulty part.

will the problem ever be so serious that the manufacturers have to just take the vehicle back, dump it and give you a new one?

yeah but only the japanese companies will publically say that they made mistakes. Domestics just hide it. If you look for recalls on the 2003 Ford mustang, you'll see a few. If you go take it into the dealership and ask to see the work list there will be thirty things that have rc on it.

wait a minute, i think that's the other way around. Whenever GM or Ford have recalls its all over the news, but when Honda or Toyota have one it very rarely gets publicized

no. recalls HAVE to be made public. that is probably a TSM you are seeing. any sort of recall mandated by the NHTSA HAS to be made public. the TSM is just things to look for which could possibly be wrong, nothing major though is ever on that.

Think again - Do a search on Google for "Toyota" "Oil Sludge" and "1MZ"

If a company had that bad quality control in their manufacturing lines, there's no way they could last a year in business.
