Is it just me, or are cars getting UGLIER?

Well, at least those from Honda. I think the RSX and the S2000 look good, and everything else ranges from boring to cover your eyes ugly (*cough* Element *cough*).

In regards to the second pic, why do so many alternate fuel based car designers have this seemingly instinctive urge to design cars with a hideous fender covering the rear wheel well? If they stopped trying to make radical departures from the normal car deisngs and stuck to tried and true market successes perhaps hybrids would be taken more seriously

I'm not up to do on Tokyo cars, but are their cars shaped somewhat like this? Or is this something completely new they are trying out?

I love the style of headlights that these new Japanese concepts are coming out with. They look so futuristic!

I think that the HSC will end up being the design for the next generation Insight (if there's a market for it). Of course, these concepts will all get quite a bit style tweaking before any of them make it to production, if they even make it that far.

With the total design of the ASM being pretty close to a production vehicle, I think it safe to say that this is going to be the next gen Odyssey.

Because there are HUGE reductions in drag when you cover the rear wheel wells.

The IMAS looks great. It looks a lot like Bertone styling exercises from the 1970's, but I always liked how those looked.

These are for Japan, right?

If so, we'd never see these cars here... they have far different tastes, lol..

The ASM doesen't look bad though. I do think we will see a trend towards more "sleek" cars, as fuel efficiency becomes more of a concern.

Yeah, there's usually a lot of these "interesting-looking" concepts that come out of the Toyko Motor Show every year. I'm waiting for the North American Auto Show for the good looking concepts.

I was kind of hoping to see something of their upcoming pickup but I guess that's closer than 'concept' car phase now and actually nearing production.

I agree with you though, I'm not particularly nuts about all the striking, straight lines on a lot of newer/concept cars these days. I prefer sleek and round edges more on most vehicles.
