Toyota Motor Corp. sales dipped 0.5 percent in May, in spite of a sharp 17 percent increase in its incentives from year-earlier levels, according to Autodata Corp.

Nissan Motor Co. posted a 6 percent sales gain, according to unadjusted sales figures from Autodata, while Honda sales dropped 14.7 percent. Honda car sales are down ahead of the launch of the new Civic compact later this year, and its new Ridgeline pickup has been slow to gain traction.

"It's a very nice truck but they have to market it a little bit better than they do right now," said Charlie Pernik, owner of the Metro Honda dealership in Detroit.

GM reported the best May for its Cadillac brand since 1993, and strong sales of its new Cobalt compact.http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0506/02/A01-201462.htm

The Ridgeline might have sold better if it didn't have the same amount of torque as a Neon.

The ridgeline might sell better as a truck if it really WERE a truck, and not some all wheel drive jacked up station wagon with a bed that's masquerading as a 4wd pickup truck! :|

Honestly, the only people that I can see buying one of those POS's is a yuppy who has always wanted to own a truck, but wasn't man enough to need one.:laugh:

well it performed as well or better than the trucks it was compared to in consumer reports. people have to stop kidding themselves that they are gonna be carrying 1000lb of rocks everyday. its like b*tching about all those car based suvs now. its absurd. they work the way people who buy them actually use them. and they do it better than the truck based ones.

that describes most truck buyers actually:p macho wannabes.

I stopped trusting Consumer Reports when they actually had a head to head test of a V6 Camero and V8 Firebird. With differences in virtually every catagory. iirc, they gave the V6 the win because of MPG. They've also rated cars with forign nameplates higher than cars with domestic nameplates, even though they are the same car. (ie: Isuzu Hombre vs. Chevy S10) They may be good for household goods, but I don't trust them for cars.

My statement is true though. :)

The Ridgeline has 252LBft, the SRT4 Neon has 250LBft. Honda's promoting it in a class where all of it's competitors have atleast 50LBft more, and often more than 100.

Hondas are way to freakin expensive when you can get the same kind of a car from Nissan or another asian maker for less that will perform just about the same.

are you comparing v6 to v8?

and really its irrelevant to real usage. its acceleration was on the higher end of the bunch. its just penis size compensation for most people the tow ratings for the ridgeline are reasonable. i dont' think u can tow much in a neon

Of course I'm comparing V6 to V8. That's the problem. I can't compare V8 to V8 because Honda doesn't have one. I'm not about to make up a V6 Avalanche just to compare it to the Ridgeline.

Picture this, you have two computers sitting side by side. Everything is similar, but one has a 2GHz Celeron, one has a 3.4GHz P4. Which are you going to choose? I'm sure you'll choose the latter 100% of the time. Even though the Celeron would be pleanty of power, and would save you a tiny bit on energy costs.

ugh well the trucks that cs compared against it were of similar price, similar mpg. and no they were not made up and no everything else was not similar. the features the ridgeline has like its trunk, internal spare/ tailgate that swings down or to the side for easy trunk access, ride quality, internal quality, acceleration, are clearly superior.

Hmmm, this could be good news if Honda responds with nice incentives.

Uhh... it's pretty ugly. Worst looking in its class IMO.
And the fuel economy isn't much better than its V8 competitors.
