Why would you spend so much on a car with much less power than a civic?

Convenience... I wanted to find a car that I can actually fit stuff into, yet isn't a gas guzzler. It such a pain putting anything into my current civic.

Get a matrix.

its almost 2 grand more...

IMO the vibe would be a better choice than the matrix...youre just paying more for a badge of the same car.

Rabbit (bad fuel economy, don't like VW)

Just thought I'd point out that it has worse fuel economy than something like the fit because it has a much more substantial engine. ~150HP and ~170lb/ft of torque compared to the Fit's ~109HP and 105lb/ft.

And it weighs ~500lbs more.

Because I care more about fuel efficiency than power. I live in a city. I don't need much power to sit at red lights.

The milage isn't anywhere in line with the other compact cars, but the new VW Rabbit is a hell of a deal at 15k. Plus it actually has some decent torque for every day driving...and it's a very safe and solid car. If I were to be a wreck, I'd rather it be a Rabbit than a Yaris or the like.

And most likely to spontaneously fall apart.

I put over 150,000 miles combined on a '95 GTI and an '00 Passat without a single part breaking or falling off. I can't say the same for the GM products I've owned. Talk about a fit and finish nightmare on those things.

Well then, you're pretty much the exception to the rule. VW aren't known for reliability. I had a 90ish golf that was just a god damn nightmare - couldnt drive two blocks without it breaking down.

Not that I'd recommend GM either...far from it.
