Looks like the Scion xB's stylish big brother. :)

I must admit, its the first minivan that has appealed to me.

Don't care for the totally flat roofline and the blackout A-pillar. Plus the large rear window makes the D-pillar look funky (as seen in the third picture).
I like the front end (as one of the posters there mentioned, it looks Mazda-esque).

Of course, minivans aren't about looks. The current Odyssey is still a market leader and if the new one is as functional & innovative, it will sell like hotcakes no matter what it looks like.

A Scion humped an Odyssey! Evil bastard child! And as a note, it has a pretty sweet looking one-off of the AV6 MT 17" rims.

It's gonna take a lot to compete with the new Sienna. Honda better bring out AWD, power liftgate, backup camera, adaptive cruise control and fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats.

Since you're the stats king, do you know if the new Sienna is selling like hotcakes?

I don't think Honda has that much to worry about. The 6-year old Odyssey beat the new Sienna in C&D's minivan comparo this month and came in a close second in Edmund's comparo. And you know Honda is going to put all of the most popular minivan features in the new version.

Although U.S. sales of minivans rose 5.7 percent through the first four months of 2004, most of the credit goes to the Toyota Sienna. Sales dropped significantly for other major minivan competitors.

U.S. sales for the Sienna jumped by 135.7 percent in that period to 56,348 units. Toyota introduced the redesigned Sienna nearly a year ago with a $950 cut in its base sticker price.

You can bet when the new Odyssey comes out that there will be no close differences :p

I remember reading "The End of Detroit" by MICHELINE MAYNARD about she was talking about the early stages of designing the Odessey. One of the main flaws of the vehicle originally as that it only came with a 4 cylinder engine which totally lacked power. But when the newly designed Odessey came out, they were flying off the dealerships so fast that many people had to be placed on a waiting list.

P.S. It's a great book....read it. It looks HELLA tight too.

Maybe they can bring that here as an Acura model :p

I don't care much for Japanese minivans, though the competition has definately helped DC with minivan innovation. The only minivan I can ever see myself driving is a hemi-powered Dodge Caravan with AWD. Stow-and-go seats rock.

I dont see how the 2nd row reversed seating would fly... people (here) buy MVs to haul their kids around in and want to see their kids and WTF they are doing. Maybe those seats can swing either way?

Not to mention how the heck due you then seat a infant car seat in those reversed seats? In todays cars with forward face seats, the infant car seat faces towards the rear of the car. Do you then reverse that for reversed facing seats?!?? :)

Looks good regardless, and yes the Odysseys were THE minivan to get until Toyota re-did the Sienna for 04.

Im looking right now and its really a toss up between those 2 for a import option. Granted both are way too damn expensive for my budget though.

#2 in sales behind the Caravan

The Caravan is still number one??? HOW? It's unrefined, makes odd noises under braking or going over bumps. A 3 year old Caravan makes odd noises when you change gears and the engine is loud.

The only redeeming feature about the Caravan is the neat stow-away seats. It's quite an engineering feat (to my simple mind anyway).

The interior in this Odyssey replacement looks beautiful. It blows away the Sienna's interior in looks. Look at those guages and center console. Very nice.

I'm sure Honda will pull out all stops in this one. But there's a problem, in the minivan war between Honda and Toyota, each sucessive generation keeps on getting more features and more expensive. They gotta think about the people who buy these contraptions for basic transportation too.

(1) You can get Caravans for under $20,000
(2) MOPAR throws insane amounts of incentives at their minivans
(3) Rental and fleet sales
(4) Strangely enough, owner loyalty (even with the reliablility issues like failed trannies)

What are you talking about?

Prices of key competitors' minivans have dropped, forcing Ford to consider following suit. Toyota started the price cutting when it introduced its redesigned Sienna last spring at a base price nearly $1,000 lower than its previous version. Then in February, the Chrysler group cut prices on its re-engineered minivans by an average of $3,000.

(4)..I've seen that. My friends parents are on their 3rd Caravan platform (they now have a Town&Country). Anyway, the first two Caravans they had crapped out on them numerous times. I think they must swapped tranny's atleast 4 times on those two vans in total. Yet when it came time to replace their van, they bought the Town &Country. Odd. You'd think after the first time, you'd stop buying them.

I dunno wat kind of mojo Chrylser has, but it sure worked on the customers.
