Honda decides not to build a V8 engine

From LA Times:

Honda Motor Co., the third-largest Japanese automaker, has decided not to build an eight-cylinder engine because high fuel prices are pushing buyers to more efficient motors. The company will focus instead on expanding diesel and gasoline-electric engine output.

"It's not the time to make a V-8," Honda Chief Executive Takeo Fukui said at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in Germany. "We need to focus on diesels and hybrids first."

Honda this year expects to build 70,000 diesel motors, for models in Europe, and 30,000 gasoline-electric hybrid motors, which will mainly be sold in U.S. cars. The company plans to boost diesel output to 100,000 motors in two years and hybrid production to as many as 50,000 a year by 2007.

Honda also plans to boost its ability to design new cars and trucks for the U.S. with a second studio in California. The Pasadena facility will help develop "advanced" models for Honda's biggest market.

weren't people in the honda el camino, ert, ridgeline thread saying how they got better mileage out of their 5.3 liter v8s than the ridgeline got?

sometimes you just need the right sized engine for the job.

although, a diesel should be quite good.

I wish GM was that smart. I'm sure they're hard at work on a V12 for the Super Soccer Mommy Suburban Extended Mall SUV.

I would rather have a real El Camino instead of a Ridgeline.

there were 2 test mules about 2 years ago one was a Suburban, or the like with a V-12 in it, and one was a V-10.

rumors have it there is also still a V-16 running around doing tests so as to allow Cadillac to possibly Produce a SUPER LUXO vehicle.

What about the V-10 for the new NSX? Hopefully that will still go through.

the Acura NSX has been killed

They're just replacing it with something else.

hence the term "killed", as in Pontiac killed the Grand Am and replaced it with the G6.

OMG! Is it you, Comic-Book-Guy-From-The-Simpsons?

Cause only he could be such a prick about a technicality.

Does Honda even sell a diesel powered vehicle here in the USA?

No, but I believe they have in the past.
Diesel is a lot more popular (and more advanced) in europe, anyway.

They shoulda known that already, WTF did they even annouce it?😕 Well atleast they're not being dumbasses like GM is.

They announced it for publicity, duh?

They will probably follow this up with an announcement on some new fuel efficient cars like the Civic Hybrid.
