Acura isn't associated with prestige and I don't understand how it's a "value", as you are paying a premium for the brand.

I'd go with the accord. Though you are going to follow your ego and buy the TSX.

True, but isn't TSX comes with more gadgets? Voice activation, navigation, bluetooth....
I had a post typed up but my browser crashed. boo.

Yea it has more gadgets, but none that I would ever consider paying an extra 5K for. It all depends what you want I suppose.

Though for 30K, you could pick up a Lexus IS 250, Audi A4 or an C230 Benz. The TSX was listed on many "Best of" lists for cars at or under 30K in 2006.

Try optioning out any of those cars to match the TSX features and see how close to 30k you really are.

if you like ugly cars that ride like sofas, maybe

It definitely feels like you are floating and has a very feminine and gentle ride. If you want a sportier ride get the accord coupe stick shift.

I think you'd be pleased to know that Acura, Honda, and BMW cars have the least depreciating value of any in the auto industry.

From your choices, Acura TSX is the way to go.

I would go for the TSX. We drove one, but it was to expensive at the time. We liked it a lot better over the accord. The accord I find boring and pretty uncomfortable, especially on long trips. After an hr or so I'm hurting.

I once had a '90 Accord EX, leather, etc. I drove it up and down teh East COast thorughout college, and a bit west. Never found it uncomfortable at all. Also, my friends were always suprised by how smooth the ride was in my car.

...but I'm with you; I'd still take the TSX (6-speed man...don't chump out and go automatic)

I had to make the decision 3 years ago, and I went with the TSX primarily because I wanted a manual transmission, and I don't think I would have purchased the Accord without the V6. The manual V6 wasn't available at the time. Also, I think the TSX looks much sleeker. I know I wouldn't trade mine for anything else in its price range, except for a newer TSX.

Acura is by far the most pointless "luxury" brand. You're buying a Honda regardless of which car you get so might as well save the $3000.

You really can't get any of those cars without another 3-5k on a similar optioned TSX. Correct me if I'm wrong, they did tune the TSX suspension for better handling. And I think the TSX is more fun to drive. And seriously, noone buys the TSX for horsepower and torque. If you want torque and power, we know Mazda MS6 is there and other Subarus in the range.

And for all the cars you listed, I wouldn't take any of them over BMW 328i.

Get the Accord. Better value, better gas mileage, and faster. TSX is a waste IMO, too underpowered and if you get the 6-speed (which is a must) you'll be shifting a lot to keep it in the power band.

So you not getting a VW when you buy Audi? Or a Toyota when you buy a Lexus? And many other rebadgings in the industry.

Car and Driver rated the Accord V6 six-speed manual one notch above the TSX 6-speed in their recent sport-sedan comparison. they liked the TSX but felt it was bringing a knife to a gunfight when it came putting the pedal down, and it wasn't enough better than the accord in other areas to make up for it.

that said, i've been looking at this segment for a while now, and i've just about convinced myself that a several-year old certified TL is the best bet at the price point. it's basically the accord with the TSX's goodies, plus more TL goodies (DVD-Audio), even more power, brembo brakes, LSD, etc. you let someone else take the ~$8K depreciation hit for the first few years in exchange for ~20,000 miles and a much nicer car. not a bad deal.

i think you only get the LSD and brembos if you get a 6 speed.

interesting, since even the wiz-bang new camry V6 SE is slower than the 5-year-old Accord V6 MT. and you can't get the camry with a manual and the V6. oh yes, you can get a manual, but only if you like taking nearly 9 seconds to get to 60 MPH thanks to the 4-banger.

i'm not sure extra plastic and another brainless slushbox scream "sport" to me... NO WAIT, it DOES. i'm thinking of another vehicle that did the same thing... ah yes: the Dodge Caravan Sport. now THERE's a sporty car. plastic body trim, sport badge, column-mount slushbox... man, that thing was the REAL DEAL. and this camry's JUST like it. better buy one now that the kids are in college, so we can have some fun... almost as much fun as in the Caravan!

and since they don't mention the accord anywhere in the article, i'd hardly say it wasn't "eligible." more like "edmunds was using the test mule when we pulled our comparo together and we didn't want to admit it or reschedule... and toyota had a lot of ads that month."

seriously, dude. motor trend. motor trend, dude.

Car and Driver describes the Camry SE with such phrases as: "The Camry is the anti-sport sedan, so despite the SE badge, this refined family car can't be persuaded to play." "A better-looking transport module." "As it is now, with that electronic nanny in the virtual back seat, we?ll just have to keep our dance card clear for a mid-size sedan that will match our moves. Delayed gratification is one thing, but that stability control wants complete abstinence. Even masochists don?t enjoy that." "The car?s stability-and-traction-control system steps in at the slightest hint of tire scrub and slows everything down. It won?t tolerate an aggressive launch, and if you snap-shift the car into second gear and cop a tiny chirp of wheelspin, it slaps your wrist with a half-second of nothing. And it can?t be switched off."

damn, sounds a like sport-sedan winner to me.

Compared both, got a 2006 TSX 6MT w/Navi for < $28000. Had to have bluetooth and HIDs and something less common than the USDM accord. First thought about an STi and Evo VIII, but didn't think they would be too reliable down the road, nor very friendly on long trips (But damn fast).

It's been to a couple track days, the only thing bad about it are the stock tires :(. $200 a piece 60,000 mi blocks that screech instead of grip. Laguna Seca is coming up on Jan 31 and Feb 14, time to wear more of them off!

Doesn't have a ton of power, but still great fun if you stir it right, comfy to boot and not as ordinary as an accord. DON'T BUY IF YOU WANT A TON OF RAW POWER.
