I know some Churches are aganst it, and others have openly gay pastors.
I certainly don?t think consenting sexual behavior between adults is a sin, but do any of you Biblical scholars know which passages are for or against it?
 
can't remember where right now, but i know there is a passage saying that sexual behavior with the same sex and with animals is a sin, i'm at work now but when i get home i'll try to find the exact passage
 
The saga of Sodom and Gomorrah. Genesis 19. God destroyed both of those cities because of its sin, primarily homosexuality.

My point of view is that it takes a awful high amount of religious gymnastics to try to argue that the bible doesn't portray an active homosexual lifestyle as sinful.

Whether you ascribe to the belief that the bible is the word of God or not, is a whole different issue, but as far as this is concerned it seems pretty clear.

Seriously, it is a fair question, but passions about religion are such that a reasonable discussion lasts about 6 posts before flaming starts. That's why my comment. Let's see what happens and hope I am wrong.
 
There is absolutely no question what the Bible says about homosexuality, whether or not you choose to put any stock in what it says is your own business.

There are many posts about this already. And yes, the posts previous to this have all the quotes from the bible that you need.

I dont know whether or not this will turn into a flame fest or not, but it's just asking for it.

The same people will be in here defending whether or not being gay is ok blah blah blah.

WHO IN THE WORLD CARES WHAT YOU DO BEHIND DOORS.

I hope this doesnt turn into another flame fest.

The bible definitely is against it. Apparently this detail is sidestepped by a great many boy-loving pedophile priests, but oh well.

But people could quote a lot more verses and it will not change people view. So why find it?

Actually, I would like to see what passages they could find that support homosexuality.
 
Here's one reasoning that I've heard, and one that I think Optimus on this board follows -

Homosexuality is bad because it sex outside of a marriage. Since most religions don't allow same sex marriages, no homosexual relationships are recognized as valid by many churches/religions.

Now it sort of begs the question why they are such sticklers on same sex marriage and I think that goes back to the Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole hubaloo surrounding that.

My personal opinion is that if you live the christia lifestyle, who you are with does not matter. I always believed that most religions are open to interpertation by the people who follow that religion. If you live a good religious life but you choose to be with someone of the same sex, thats your buisness. Just the fact that there are christian churches with openly gay pastors that haven't shut down yet shows that there is some interpertation in the religion
 
You'll find lots of stuff in the bible that conflicts with modern values. It's interesting to me that homosexuality is often treated by some as a bigger sin than adultery.
 
I think pork is forbidend to, in the Old, but in the new, doesn't Christ throw ALL of it out, and say Love God, and Love your neighbor as yourself?
 
This is about the limit of a thread where people stop reading and just post their opinions.
BTW, is a sin a sin, or are some sins worse than others? Is homosexuality in the ten commandments?
Why is this stressed more than, say, lying or sleeping out of wedlock?

Is it the social stigma--the thought of someone saying/thinking YOU are a homo and the fact that you can't stand that?

No not really, he threw out many laws though, just not all.
