HOMM5

I started playing HOMM5 last night. was pretty fun. i didn't think i'd like it but i do.

anyway, on the 2nd mission i ended up with like 600 peasants 150 archers, like 100 footmen, and i think i had some griffins and some other unit. I also had almost 200,000 gold and i had every city building that was available. I just kept going around building up my army.

so i go to the last part of the mission and easily finish it. next mission starts.
i have 5000 gold, like 25 peasants, 5 footmen and like 12 archers. WTF? where did all that stuff go??? i hate when games do that to you. had i kniow that i wouldn't have spent so much time building my army. so retarded.

also, how the hell do i learn spells? when i level up i get the options for being able to select what skills i want and some of them are for castign spells, but i have no spells except that benediction one. i have yet to see where i can learn an actual spell.

You have to learn spells at spell shrines (with the little book inside) or at the mages guild in one of your cities, which you'll need to build. Once your hero learns a spell, he doesn't need to re-learn it on each new level.

And yes, units do not carry over from mission to mission, except for the heroes of course.

I wish they had made it a bit revolutionary than evolutionary. Everything feels the same and new features are minimal.

I think there are a few around in the first few levels, and the mages guild comes up for building up in the last few levels of the first hero (woman knight). She doesn't have access to many spells, but later heroes have plenty.

i'm in the middle of mission 3 and i haven't seen a single one yet.

gah, i can't apply the patches! it says the game isn't installed!
i did choose a different directory than the default, could that be why? if so, thats fvcking retarded.

the entire Haven campaign isn't terribly difficult and is meant as a tutorial. I think you'll find things challenging starting with the dungeon campaign.

HOMM5 rules. I have the original HOMM1 (DOS), HOMM2.. and the collectors pack that was released years later (HOMM1-3).

I think this game is one of the best out there.

If anyone remembers Hammer of the Gods, it was actually the first of this style of TBS.

HOTG was like the Dune of the Warcraft RTS games. The patriarch.

I've played nearly every game and style available in my years of hardcore gaming (1986-2000 RIP LOL) but the HOMM series is one that I dont feel needlessly bogged down with details or that I'm actually WORKING rather than having fun.

I feel like I'm working moving around a Warcraft 1/2/3 map at lightening speed. And Civilization (while I played the heck out of Civ1/2) feels like I'm doing too much micromanagement.

HOMM is perfect in that you deal with your soldiers, holding mines, and figuring out strategies to take out the enemy.. and the battles are just pure fun and a joy to watch the attacks.

This series needed a makeover without any major changes yet to bring it to the new crowd of gamers.

eh, when i 1st started playing homm5 i thougght it was really fun, now like a day or 2 later, it seems like a chore and boring just watching your army do the same crap over and over and over again for every battle. the freaking turn based crap is so slow.

That's what I felt like with HOMM1, LOL. Repetitive. It's the same thing again and again. Repetitive. Did I say the gameplay is repetitive.

For me, I enjoy the strategy to the game on where/when to attack and with what.

I guess its repetitive, but they dont bog you down with micromanagement, you operate strictly from a military perspective for the most part. Just maintaining control of mines.

I played it for awhile, but got bored quickly. The 3D graphics do not anything IMO.

For me, HOMM3 is still the better game by far.

Dungeon? No no, the Sylvan campaign is a definite pain in the rear (the first one was really hard for me, even on easy). Homm5 is a nice refresh to a game that I've been playing for a while, and it's nice to see the Heroes line come back to its roots, but frankly it's nothing more than a rehash, really.

go here: http://celestialheavens.com/

lots of answers will be answered, if the patch won't work you've might have chosen the wrong one. There's a lot of different versions and they need the correct patch or it wont work (click). You only need to download patch 1.1 as it comes with an autoupdate feature. It is highly recommended that you check the Skill wheel and that you download the unofficial manual

The heaven campaign is a bit boring, but it's when you start to understand the different way you can build your hero it starts to be fun. Also choose to play on atleast 'hard ' setting for campaigns if you want some resistance.

LOL
I just tried to update my copy, put on 1.1.. then used the auto update and it results back 404

Nice! They dont even have their servers setup to update their own game.

Ok on 1.3 now. Works good and I like the traditional HOMM camera mode choice. Theres no reason to have to manage the viewpoint if theres a single view that lets you see everything IMO.

Just because we can do 3D doesnt mean everything needs a 360 view and 20X zoom ...
