How would I write this title to an essay with proper punctuation, I forget how to use works in titles and Google doesn't really answer.

The exploration of the meaning of reality in Allegory of the Cave and The Matrix.

+1 internet for anyone who can help 🙂

The Exploration of the Meaning of Reality in: Allegory of the Cave and The Matrix

Maybe underline instead?

Ah no need to use quotations or italics in titles?

I have no idea. 😛

Grats on your soon-to-be BA.

Meh, English is my second language really, I can write a paper in French better than in English heh. I actually just started concentrating on English witting skills this year and it has improved significantly since last August.

The way you wrote it:

The exploration on the Meaning of Reality in "Allegory of the Cave" and "The Matrix."
or
The exploration on the meaning of reality in Allegory of the Cave and The Matrix.

Much better:
An exploration on Reality in Allegory of the Cave and The Matrix.

Even better:

An exploration on Reality in Allegory of the Cave and [some other God-awful movie that hasn't been overused to cliche' in some 2 billion lower-level English class essays]

there ya go
🙂

 werd.

And yes, you must use quotations/italics in titles, when referring to the title of a work.

But..but..zin..it was the easiest choice for a comparative analytical essay 😛

Thanks though 🙂

no sweat.

The Matrix would have been so much better were not for the last 2, Keanu Reeves, and the Makowski's agreeing to never make another movie after it. Shame 🙁

To the best of my knowledge, the Allegory of the Cave is just a literary device that is used in Plato's The Republic, and is not an independent work (so no italics) or a named part of such a work (so no quotation marks). Thus:

The Exploration of the Meaning of Reality in the Allegory of the Cave and The Matrix

This assumes that your title refers specifically to how these works explore the meaning of reality, rather than identifying your own work as an exploration of how these works present the meaning of reality (in which case, use "An Exploration").

Quotation marks are incorrect for The Matrix because it is an independent work. Underline is incorrect if typed, but an adequate substitute for italics if written by hand.

As a general point for the report, it is my best guess that Allegory of the Cave should be capitalized (like I just did) when it appears in normal prose, but not italicized/bolded/written in your own blood/etc. Wikipedia, where people are usually insanely anal about such things, is inconsistent about the capitalization.
