Maybe my sarcasm meter is broken but how is that a good thing ? Take advantage. My parents pay $11k right now and have an empty nest.

I pay ~$4500.
 

In most places, unless you actual file for the exemption, you will not receive it...in looking at the tax bills for some of the neighbors on my street (gotta love the internet), only one other person filed for it.

Hard to believe people are losing out on this free money...

I own one side of a duplex which used to be owned by a single owner. Stupid tax authorities would not split the property in two until the new tax season so they double taxed me for my side and the other side. Grr.
