Does this cover only items "fixed" with the house like refrigerators, microwaves, etc. or does it include removable items like laptops and digicams and jewelry? How about cash in drawers? Cars in the garage or driveway? Proof req'd ? Cop said home insurance companies don't usually call people liars and trust claims.

Our documents state COVERAGE C - PERSONAL PROPERTY $102,135. But doesn't go on to explain any further. Still waiting for the adjuster to call.. so I wanted a heads-up.

Just about everything in the house is covered. Some jewelry requires additional coverage if it is worth a lot. It helps if you have receipts, but not always necessary. I had a neighbor who had some golf clubs stolen out of his garage while he was at home. Insurance gave him more than enough to buy a new set of clubs.

That $102,000 figure means that is the max in personal property replacement you could claim. So you should be fine. The $102,000 would be the most you could get for your personal property if you lost everything in the house.

We're also worried about the cash in the drawers that were taken...

It varies from policy to policy. When I was looking at renters insurance, the basic policy only allowed like $2000 for computer equiptment and $1000 for firearms (which is where my paintball gear would fall). I had him bump both of those up to $5000 each, the premium only went up another $17/yr. There was some amount for jewelery and cash, but since I don't own any jewelery myself (and whatever the limit was would have covered any girlfriend's jewelry) and keep little cash in the house, I didn't have those adjusted.

It's probably in the paperwork you first got with the policy if you can still find that.

You need to read your policy and talk to your agent. Your basic "fire" policy is almost the same between all companies. From there the differences can be quite pronounced.
