I placed an order for 15 grease fittings this morning from an industrial supply company (MSC) 10 minutes later they called and asked if I was going to export them. They said it was a limited export item and had to call to make sure it wasn't going to be used in an IED

Agreed.

I am pleased they are doing their job, so STFU!

and that job would be calling you up and asking if your going to place it in an IED? that just sounds more like using the honor system...kinda like what we were doing before...

It's 15 grease fittings. They come in packs of 10 and you can get them anywhere (home depot, etc). It's not an odd order. It's not like I placed an order for 10,000. So next time I go to home depot and buy a box of nails, i'll have to fill out a form stating what i'm going to use them for?

Doesn't it give the ol' warm and fuzzy knowing that .gov is watching everything you do to keep you safe??

What a clueless idiot.

I bet you feel "safe" knowing that the government is pretending to make you safer. Sort of like when they were pushing for IDs for foreign people to stop another 9/11 (ignoring, of course, that all the hijackers did in fact have valid visas). Or how about preventing people from hostile nations from getting visas (ignoring, of course, that the hijackers were from a friendly nation, Saudi Arabia)

Of course, a REAL terrorist would just find somewhere else to get parts for their bombs. Or, how about this- I bet a real terrorist would just say "yes" when asked if they're exporting them to Iraq to make IED's. Hmm, let me think of a way around this...I bet a smart terrorist would just say "No."

Reality check: do you really think that insurgents from Iraq are ordering grease fittings from the US to make their bombs? You don't think that they get them right in Iraq, as if Iraq isn't capable of making grease fittings?

Common sense 101 FTW.

No way man, terrorists always tell the truth and don't know how to lie.

Here's how the system works:

1. Terrorist tries to buy parts for IEDs.
2. Government agents asks "Are you a terrorist?"
3. Terrorist says "Yes I am".
4. The terrorist is caught, and you get to live in great safety and freedom.

Big Government FTW!

I wonder when Lowe's is going to start asking for my license when I buy a box of nails or drywall screws.

I know some of you are being ironic, but never underestimate the stupidity of a terrorist. Even some of the the ones that were succesful on 9/11 were as dumb as bricks... we were just dumber for not picking up on their stupidity.

Grease fittings?? Link to pic or description? WTF - what are they used for? Why would they be export restricted?
And why would an IED need a grease fitting?

Stop it. You're using too much logic and common sense.

"Certainly not. They might be used in RPG's or remote control car bombs, but in the name of Allah I'd never let them be used in IDE's."

Do you know what a grease fitting is? Engineer's comparison isn't far off the mark.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to third world nations who don't appreciate it anyway we use it to shore up our own defenses. I believe if we would have had some form of homeland security 911 would have never happened. I guess it took a tragedy of this magnitude to wake us up. When I see footage of that event it still makes me ill even today. If we let our guard down we will be inviting an other terroist attack on our nation.
