A good thing to do right away is change your ssid from the default. I just got in trouble by leaving my ssid to the default of "linksys" and then I couldn't figure out why my Ipaq wouldn't connect half the time.
Turns out that one of my neighbours got a Linksys router too and had left his ssid to "linksys" as well and they were conflicting.

Other than that my wireless router is pretty much self configuring so I imagine yours will be the same. Once you get it up and running make sure to at least enable WEP encryption, and wpa would be better if your devices support it (wep is supposed to be easy to crack).

If you play games you may have to either forward ports or take the easier but less secure step of adding your desktop to the DMZ (which opens all the ports on your desktop). If you use the DMZ make sure you have a software firewall like ZoneAlarm (you can get it free).
