Like some of the other comments made, go for a subwoofer to add some real bass. If you do this, you might be able to get some smaller satellite speakers and mount them on stands instead. It will be very tough to get "satisfying" bass from most speakers when a subwoofer is not used. However, throwing the sub into the equation means that you'll be assured of some good bass.

I can't comment on the Pioneer receiver because it's been a few years since I've owned their gear. However, if you're set on a Pioneer receiver, buy one from an Internet retailer and go up a bit further in the model lineup (e.g. 912 receiver.)

Best of luck to you.

I highly highly HIGHLY recommand fluance.

I've read quite a few good things on Fluance. They seem to perform quite well for their price. However, my personal favorite are the speakers that sell for $1,000 a pair from people who sell them out of the back of white vans. Normally, these speakers go by the names of Dogg Digital.

j/k - on the last 2 sentences. Never - and I mean NEVER buy your speakers from someone selling them in a local parking lot out of the back of their white van. ;)

Those speakers are only 33" tall. I think that's a little short to be called a floor standing speaker.

However, my Kenwood has 50 watts per channel and I've been more than happy since I have a 100watt powered subwoofer to pick up the slack. Since I'm in an apartment, I'd never need anything more....I'd get kicked out if I had it anyhow. :p

its not a true 100watts. trust me I use to own this reciever and my current h/k. even though my h/k is ratted less, it will drive more efficiently, cleaner, louder.

Ok, now which of these two would you buy?

Pioneer SH453FK

Polk R30BLACK

Why are you limiting yourself to what Circuit City has to offer?

Location. :p

go listen to them yourself. what is important is what your ears hear. just make sure they hook them up to the same pioneer reciever your going to buy so you know what your going to be getting.

All things considered, you won't be disappointed with either speaker. I can't say if either are audiophile level or anything like that, but from your description of yourself, you'll be happy either way. go listen to them, if you can get the guys at circuit city to hook them up the receiver you want and listen to them both that will help you decide.

Ok, thanks everyone. I've gone and placed my order, and I'll be heading out in a little while to pick them up (it's an hour drive, I live in the boondocks). I'll let you know how they sound though. :)
