So i have a Toshiba 32" TV....non HD. just a regular 32". The problem is I need a surround system for it for the upcoming hockey games!

It has to be available at futureshop, best buy or any electronic retail place (Im canadian)

It also has to be under $500 canadian before taxes. Ive been looking at a Pioneer unit thats 499 that comes with a DVD 5 spks and a sub. I heard to stay away from Sony. Ive also looked at Yamaha, JVC, and Panasonic.
Im looking for a entry level system that will sound good and it doesnt have to be that loud. Thanks cause I need some suggestions!!!

no idea but 5 speakers is better than from the TV..!! also will be used for DVD's

Thanks good_guy..will take a look at that model!

Based strictly on brand, I'd go for a yamaha or panasonic. It depends on the models available to you, though.

If you don't need a dvd player you might consider the onkyo package, though it may be just outside of your specified budget.

call BBY and find out when it goes on sale. It was selling for 199.99 2 weeks ago. Its got really good sound. I have it hooked it up and cranked it up. I know its a entry level, and you cant expect much, but for what its got its worth it. After all I paid 199 for it about 9-10 months ago. I didnt realise how good a system it was after i opened it. You normally dont find expandablity in low end systems. This one has all kinds.. i love it.

If you can get that for $200, that would leave you plenty of money to pick up an Xbox and ESPN NHL 2k5 to play on your new 5.1 setup. 😉

Onkyo Receiver

Hmm, Ecost doesn't have anymore onkyo speakers... You can get a set of 5.1 speakers from Onkyo for like 200 bucks.

Still won't make it under $500 Canadian I don't think.

He's just gotta wait a while until Ecost got more speakers in stock for like 150, US. Not sure how much canadian that is...
