Ok....my receiver has a subwoofer output. I'm too cheap to get a sub :) Right now I'm running my DJ speakers with big 15" woofers for my fronts, but soon I'm getting good Infinities. So, I was wondering, is it at all possible to run one of the old speakers as a sub? I tried running the sub output into my DJ amp and then running that to the speaker, but all I got was a loud hum...why? Is this just not possible?

It's probably not possible, as usually the sub output is just a white RCA style connector. There really isn't an "easy" way to run just the 15" woofer as a sub, the proper signal wont be sent to it.

I'm not running it straight to the sub though, its going through an amp...I thought that the signal was just an unamplified bass signal? Is it something else?

Correct. You can connect the sub signal to an amp, amp to the speaker.

Then you must have either a bad cable or a nasty ground loop.......emliminate the ground pin on your amp and that should get rid of the problem.

Also PE has subwoofer plate amps (fit in a square hole you cut in the back of the box) 150watt for $85 and a 250watt for $125.....250watt with remote for $138 :D

If you can spare $150, you can get the Sony subwoofer. I didn't have the funds for a $500 subwoofer and came across a lot of reviews for the Sony. Best sub for under $300.

what you did should've worked.. might not have sounded very good, but that hum sounds like it's a ground loop.. try running a ground cable from your dj amp to your receiver.. should fix that problem.

Hmm I'll try that....I hooked it up through my DVD player instead of through the receiver and the hum was gone...but that's a pain cuz I have to manually adjust the volume and stuff and it only works with stuff through the DVD player.
