We was looking to spend about $500-600, but we ended up spending a little more. We're extremely happy with the purchase. Also, we're not interested in a 5.1 surround sound system, a 2.1 is deffinitly fine for us.

Yes we tested before we bought:

- Denon DRA395 ($350)
- Boston PV500 ($300, the rep we talked to knocked off $50 because we missed a sale from the previous week!)
- Boston CR65 ($130. I will be doing a price check to this website and get the $30 difference in price credited)

Total = $780

Anyways, like I was saying, it sounds SO good, and we're very happy. Thanks to all that helped me out. I know some of you dont beleive me, but yes...we bought the Denon at BB.

Good choices. Music especially is going to sound a lot better with that setup compared to some $300 home theater in a box trash with awful midrange and weak bass.

Yea, thats how we felt. Spending the money on a good, quality receiver was pretty important to us.

We dont have room for a 5.1 setup, not the way our living room is set up. Again, 2.1 is perfect and it sounds incredible.
 
FOr that price it better sound incredible. At least now you have no chance to ever upgrade without buying a whole new system... Can get a really nice full featured tuner (5.1 if not 6.1) for the same price.
 
What do you have against WOMEN? Don't they know anything about home theaters? :|

Ok, let me say this one. more. time.

we dont want a 4.1, 5.1, or 7.1 surround sound. Yes it sounds incredible, yes we're happy. The object of this thread was to thank the peeps the offered advise to us and to show what we purchased, but I forget that some people in here feel the need to give other people greif.

To be perfectly honest, you overpaid an extreme amount for that reciever. I've got a Denon AVR483 (5.1 same specs other than that from what I could tell) for $150. Looks nice other than that.
 
I'd have to say you made a bad receiver choice too. First, you overpaid for what you're using, and second, I think you should have gotten a 5.1/6.1/7.1 capable receiver. You're getting quality stuff you're going to keep. That means if you move, you dont' have to get a new receiver.
 
Okay, first of all, any home theater buff in the know will tell you, Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo and the like are good entry level receivers. You started off well, and a Denon at Best Buy is a great find. Now as time and money increase, augment the set-up with some surrounds and a large tv. 🙂

This may sound "nerdy", but get a good HT set up/calibration disc like Avia of Video Essentials along with an SPL meter.....this will last you the life of your hobby and give the peace of mind that your audio/video experience is always calibrated to some objective standard.

Are you sure it wasn't Good Guys that sold you the Denon receiver? BB doesn't sell Denon gear - to my knowledge. Also, I suspect it would be a cold day in hell if Denon authorized BB to seel their gear. Just my .02

Well, we decided not to spend $10k on a plasma/sound setup because its just not the right time (i beleive anyways, I'm waiting for prices and a standard to take charge) and not the right place (our condo).

I'm sure 5.1 would fit in your living room. I have 5.1 in my 12x12' bedroom. Also I spent $200 on my Denon AVR-1603 and it sounds wonderful. Could never imagine watching TV without prologic.

looks good tho,

i have 6.1 in a 18x20 room, Halo 2 sound AMAZING

as well as everything else
 
When you move to a house and get the $4K home theater setup, this system will still be great for music listening in a home office / computer room.
