HOME THEATER: distance from REAR CENTER to viewer?

The angle of the listener to the speakers is important, but the distance is fine as long as it is the same distance from each speaker to the listener.

The rear center speaker can be position directly above you, if you don't have room. If you have room, try about 3 feet above listening position and about three feet behind is good enough. Just be sure to set the distance on your receiver and go to Radio Shaq, get a SPL (Sound Pressure Level) meter, and measure the output of each speaker. You should have a good HT experience after that.

Preferably at the same elevation. Personally, it doesn't matter as long as the sound is balanced (do some fiddling around with a test CD).
