Home stereo speakers

I need some not-so-expensive speakers for my home stereo; as my dad crushed my marantz speakers (yeah, crushed).

What do you think is a good deal for the cost? I want 100w RMS at least, and I only need two speakers.

What would you suggest? Cheaper is better, but I don't want to give up quality.

Yeah...My dad landed a 17,000lb die-grinder on my speakers, lord knows how.

And I already have a very nice pair of headphones, they're about as loud as most normal computer speakers when hooked to my receiver. Crystal clear sound too.

DIY. go find some nice drivers, and have madisound.com design a crossover setup for them for in home. then build some custom boxes for them. they will sound as good as your marantz speakers, if you build to speck, and buy some nice drivers.

maximum cost could be out of your range, but what is "cheap" to you.

Completely agree... I got the AS F1's (while they were still made in Canada) and they are unbelievable for the price. They handle everything I throw at them and never distort. They seem to have plenty of bass when used by themselves, yet, they never sound too boomy. I bought the Athena Audition Series center channel to go with the AS F1's and it sounds amazing too. However, they are now made in China, it seems.. That's not a big deal for me - but is a big deal for some.

If Athena keeps making speakers as nice as they do, they will end up one of the larger players in the high-end* speaker market.

*When I say high-end, I basically mean speakers that can beat everything at Best Buy.. Not.. 'the best speakers in the universe' ya damn audiophile geeks.

magnaplaners are good but large speakers. since it's planar technolgy, it doesn't have the dynamics of good cone drivers.

no speaker is perfect. if you like natural voices (i.e. jazz, opera) get a planar speaker. if you like rock, slam, home theater, get a cone driver technology speaker.
